City, O' City - (3/5)

I don't yet know how I TRULY feel about a space that quotes Boris Vian (in French!), but it's owned by the Watercourse folks (and located in the old space), so it should be ok, right? The preliminary reviews were pretty much on the dot; City is really more of a bar that happens to serve coffee (and veggie pizzas), a stylish nook that's kind of like a Cheers for the indie/creative community. Having said that, I was kind of intimidated about dining here, but the servers are in that friendly but unobtrusive Mathlete/A.V. club fashion, and the ambiance on one Saturday afternoon rather low-key. Perhaps I'll give it a second (or third) round.

EDIT: I went here four times in one week. Go for the #3 pizza with seitan!

Famous Pizza - (2/5)

Not every painting can be the Mona Lisa, just like every schmuck with a typewriter can't be Hemingway and every kid in band can't grow up to be Morrissey. Along a similar line, not every pizzeria can be top of the line. However, when you're just out of the Hi-Dive, still buzzing from another great conert, or wandering out of Three Kings full of liquid courage, Famous hits the spot. $2 a slice and tables that may have been bought at a DMV auction don't seem half bad at 2 AM. You can do much worse when it comes to cheap eats.

Two-Fisted Mario's - (4/5)

Connected to Double Daughter's (and named after the owner of both), Mario's is a hip $2 slice pizza parlor complete with those tables that have 1980's arcade games built in. With metal flowing through the speakers and PBR on tap, it is juxtaposed nicely with DD's cocktails and dance tracks. Popular for a reason, this place is a great stop for that impromptu bar meal. Everyone knows this fact, so expect longer lines at 1 AM on Saturday than 7 PM Wednesday.

Pizza Vera - (5/5)

Over the past 13 years I have been a huge fan of this place. Super cheap, Big Slices, and the best ranch dressing in town!

Just recently I believe that Pizza Vera is under new ownership, and it has improved quite a bit! I thought it couldn't get any better!

they always have awesome movies to watch on that little TV in the corner while you're eating!

The only Con I can think of is that sometimes they don't have your favorite slices ready for eating when you get there.
