Exploring Europe: Berlin – Amsterdam – Rotterdam Edition (2/3)

Tuesday last week, I finished my visit to Berlin and headed to Amsterdam by train. Six hours of enjoying the view over the German countryside and passing by the Volkswagen car factory followed. After changing trains in Hilversum and another twenty minutes’ train ride I finally arrived in Amsterdam Centraal.

In Amsterdam I was staying with our beloved community manager for Tupalo Amsterdam, Paul. First we needed to get something to eat. He took me to a restaurant where he used to work for a while. A nice little place, called ‘t Zwaantje with traditional Dutch food. I had the mushrooms on toast… again, it’s not easy being vegetarian sometimes. Still, a very nice place to get some food and the mussels Paul had looked delicious and so were my mushrooms on toast.

Well fed we went to Paradiso, the most unique and special concert hall I’ve ever been to. We were there to see CocoRosie perform and perform they did. Awesome concert in an epic scenery!

At the concert we met a friend of Paul’s, who suggested to go to Bloemenbar, a hipster bar. We had a few drinks there and Paul brought up the idea to go on a boat ride. A boat ride in Amsterdam at night, who can say no to that?

On Wednesday Paul and I walked around and went to the Amsterdam Tattoo Museum. I like tattoos and if you do as well you should go there! I was really tempted to get a new tattoo at the studio right upstairs. Next stop was Roest, a city beach in an industrial area. Hanging out, relaxing, having drinks in the sun was exactly what I needed.

As soon as we had enough of a tan we kept on walking through Amsterdam and got some pizza at La Perla. What a nice pizzeria! And the pizza was great! After a short rain, Paul wanted to introduce me to a belgium beer called “La Chouffe”, so we walked over to Café de Doffer to get it. It is a very good beer! Again we were waiting for the rain to stop. I asked Paul what his favorite bar was and to take me there. So, next up was Lux. After another few drinks we went home, cause Paul had to get up early and I had to go to Rotterdam.

The Rotterdam story I will tell you next week, cause I have to go to Budapest’s legendary Sziget Festival to see some awesome artists.
