Community, Vienna

It’s cold, it’s dark… let’s go outside!

It’s that time of the year again, when people complain about the weather a lot and you want stay on the couch forever, where it’s warm and cosy. Yeah…but you know, even then there are so many things happening in your city or neighborhood. Just get some warm clothes, go outside and explore!

If you are getting cold, have a Punsch at one of the Viennese Christmas Markets, have some rest at a cosy café or visit a local exhibition. For some inspiration, take a look at our suggestions and user recommendations below.

Phil (reviewed by Mike)

Super hip, vintage cafe and book store, where you can get a great cup of coffee, the new Wild Nothing LP and a vintage 1950’s coffee table all in one sitting. Usually full, it’s best you try and arrive early, especially on the weekend. But when you’re sitting, give their super filling breakfast and soy lattes a definite chance! Just be sure to look good while doing it.

Café Sperl (reviewed by batesman)

I’ve been coming here for nearly 20 years and very little has changed, which is comforting in a way. Service is fine, can be a bit typically Viennese in the evening. Food is hit or miss, but the coffee and ambience cannot be beat.

Kunsthistorisches Museum (reviewed by dwseiple)

One of the world’s great museums set in an amazingly, stunningly beautiful building. Just to look at the interior of this building is worth the price of admission. If you’re not in awe of the art collect – and you will be – you’ll be overwhelmed by the gorgeous interior. Yes, it’s THAT good!

Westlicht (reviewed by last_shit)

westlicht is one of the nicest galleries in vienna, I’d say. it’s the place to see photography exhibitions. I have never been disappointed after my visits. things are nicely presented and always interesting. I especially recommend the “world press award”-exhibitions that are set there once a year. there’s a leica-shop too and little cafè inside. people are very nice! it’s just a very cute place. the location is pretty cool too.

Gartenbaukino (reviewed by spanaut)

Surely one of the nicest cinemas in town, great sixties architecture and definitely worth a visit during Viennale film festival. Watch out for events and parties at the foyer!

So, what is your favorite urban winter spot?
