After working in Vienna for a full month, my parents will visit me in 2 weeks to do some sightseeing. Both here and in Bratislava and Budapest. But let’s focus on Vienna. Apart from the occassional toeristy trip, I’d like to show them my favorite spots.
Day 1
We will probably stop by the Wirtschaftsmuseum on the way to my place, for the scientific artifacts are practically my neighbours. As is Sektor5, so I’ll squeeze in a little trip to this awesome coworking space as well, for my dad (the geeky workaholic type) probably has some blogging to attend to.
Day 2
On monday I’ll take them to the Tupalo headquarters, and I’ll show the 3D printers at the Metablab to my dad.
And we’ll do a Mariahilfe-tour, with a lunch/snack break at either Freiraum (and try to get a table overlooking the ‘shopping highway’) or at my all-time-favorite Suppengalerie, where they have great (couscous) salads and an awesome pumpkin soup.
Both my mum and my sister love fashion. For my sister couldn’t join my parents on their city trip we’ll have to do some shopping for her. At Forever21, that is. We’ll definitely stroll along the more exclusive fashion stores at the Lindengasse and enjoy the hippie-esque vibe (and a coffee from one of those cheesy Aida’s) of the Neubaugasse. If I have a say in this (and I like to think that I do) we end up at Stephansplatz to have dinner in one of the overly expensive restaurants there. And we’ll visit a nice wine bar. But we might just stay in the Neubaugasse and ‘get our cocktails on’ at Caffe Latte.
Day 3
Up next? Museums Quartier! We’ll stop by Bortolotti on our way to the Burggarten to enjoy the outside a bit before we’ll go museumhopping.
And after all that high brow culture sniffing, we should take it done a notch and eat a schnitzel at Figlmüller. I mean, when in Vienna… And/or I’ll take them to hipster heaven, bookstore and café Phil for a bobotoast and premium cola.
Day 4
Day 4 should be on a saturday, because day 4 is Naschmarkt-day! We’ll have lunch at one of the stands, shop some more and end up at the Burgermacher for a tasty ‘Fleischeslust Burger’.
Day 5
Day 5 should be a sunny day for I’d like to show the Altes AKH to my folks and have a doppio espresso at Salettl. We’ll go cupcake-shopping and relax some more at my place. And go out for dinner. At Nam Nam this time, with its colourfull cushions and the modern Indian ambiance.
