veg*an hausmannskost at its best...

i still wish they would put it somewhere more near me, without a car, I can't go there as often as I'd like to :-( you can't go wrong by picking the daily meal or order something else...they got cocktails and games for nice evenings.

Schillinger (or Charlys, as it's sometimes referred to) is an absolute classic!

Shortly outside of Vienna (yet still too far!), Schillinger is a scenic and traditional Austrian gasthaus, serving traditional Austrian meals, veganized and deliciousified.

Everything is recommended, but you can't go wrong with their Cordon Bleu, Ham and Cheese sandwiches ("Haustoast") or their schnitzel. If in doubt, just get their Hausplatter, which is a giant plate of salad, potatoes, dips and a selection of Schillinger "meats" on top.

Go there in the Summer and pick up a fully prepared picnic basket, with local wine and walk around the village to find a nice spot in the sun (or shade) to hangout with a loved one. Also be sure to try their homemade ice-cream flavors and huge selection of vegan cocktails.

a great restaurant not far from vienna!

great, mainly vegan food, very nice atmosphere, lovely people, good music and cheap prices! :) i advise you to come and see!

a great place for people who don't like meat, their food is really good but the huge amount of potatoes is sometimes disturbing.

they also have good and cheap cocktails. all kinds of them.
i think it lost a bit of its charme when they renovated it.
you can also take the food with you and have a picknick in the nice countryside and watch animals walking by and get drunk on one of the many smooth hills nearby.
in the restaurant there are many ways to waste your time with plenty of boardgames or cards or dicess.

this spot is amazing!

typical Austrian Hausmannskost, all vegan/vegetarian.
wide variety of starters, main dishes and delicious deserts.
portions are very generous and you will leave this place with a full stomach and happy smile.
great tea, coffee drinks and cocktails with funny names, both non-alcoholic and boozalicious.
this place is one of a kind, make sure to reserve if you come in a large group.

Well hidden ~50 km from the Viennese border in the small village Großmugl lies one of the most unique and best vegetarian restaurants.

It's been a restaurant for more than 200 years, but for the last 6 years they specialiced on vegan and vegetarian versions oftypical Austrian meals like Paprikahendl, Cordon bleu or Wildragout, but they also got a wide range of burgers etc.

They're also known for their cheap but good cocktails, and there are quite some parlor games that can be borrowed, or you can play at on of their pool tables, all in all a great place to hang out once you're there.

It was recently renovated (which in my optinion made it loose quite of it's run-down and old countryside restaurant charme), and looks pretty chic.

So if you want to get a taste of austrian cuisine without animal cruelty involved, this is definitely the place to go to.

(btw. it was the first restaurant outside of the u.s. that received a peta award)
