What is Tupalo.com?
Tupalo.com Tupalo.com is a new form of Yellow Pages. On Tupalo.com you’ll find all kinds of businesses. Be it Doctors, restaurants or barbers. Rate and review them and let others know about what you discovered.
What are spots?
Some call them business listings, point of interests, detail pages, hotspots, etc. – well, we call them spots. A spot is an entry of some business. It includes basic business information and all associated reviews.
What’s up with that “share this” button?
We live in a connected world called the Internet. Your reviews gain influence and visibility by spreading them through various channels such as Facebook and Twitter. Tupalo.com makes it easy to share your reviews by simply clicking on the “share this” button. Enjoy.
What does “announce on Twitter” mean?
If you are an avid Twitter user then you’ll love this feature. By checking the box your review gets automatically imported into your Twitter stream. Nifty, isn’t it?
What’s a favorite?
It’s a spot you really like, where you hang out a lot, which you want to recommend and which you’d like to be able to look up easily. That’s a favorite. Mark it as a favorite and it’ll be fetched into your user profile.
Is Tupalo.com free of charge?
Yes, entirely and we are going to keep it that way.
Who uses Tupalo.com?
Pretty much people like you and us. People who love to go out, experience new stuff and share it with others. From locals to tourists, a wild mix of cool people willing to share their interests and discoveries. We recommend being part of that crowd.
What’s the best way to get in touch with Tupalo.com?
You could visit us in our beautiful office in Vienna. Alternatively, and probably easier, is dropping us an E-mail at feedback. If you have business inquiries then let us know via business. If you are a journalist, blogger or other press related person then get in touch via press. We already look forward to your mails, really!
How come phone numbers and/or E-mail Addresses of businesses don’t show up?
We are working on this. There will never be 100% complete and correct business listings, however we encourage business owners to update their contact information accordingly. You can do this by simply creating an account and click on the “edit” button spot pages. Alternatively you can drop us a line at feedback.
Why can’t I upload photos?
We are working on this. Check back soon to see this feature live.
I have photos of certain spots and would like to share them on Tupalo.com. How shall I proceed?
First of all: Great idea. Photos are always an enhancement for Reviews and spots. Unfortunately there is currently no way to upload Photos to Tupalo.com directly, however we have a tight integration with Flickr. So, if you photos then we kindly ask them to upload to Flickr (which is a great service by the way) and then link them with the tags of the specific spot page on Tupalo.com (see right sidebar, lower part for the Tag), thus they’ll show up on the spot page on Tupalo.com.
Hm, I can’t find a spot which I’d like to review
Once in a while this will happen, since we are not able to carry every business in the world. That’s where the “add a spot” in the main navigation bar comes into play. Simply create that spot with it’s full adress, Google Map and all the necessary stuff it needs. We really apreciate people adding spots. It’s also good for your Karma Rank.
I’d like to support you guys. Maybe also work with you. What shall I do?

I am the owner of a business with a bad review. What can I do against that?
Neither Tupalo.com, nor its users want to do anyone any bad. Tupalo.com strives for transparency and the internet enables transparency. We try to avoid spam, fake users and damaging someones reputation. However we actively encourage business owners to get in touch with us. We have some great things we can offer you at a very low price, that enables to get in touch with your users and moderate reviews. Drop us a note at business.
PROFILE & SETTINGS
I’d like to share Tupalo.com with my friends and family. What shall I do?
In your profile settings we have a tool that lets you easily invite your friends either via E-mail or social networks, such as Twitter, Flickr or Facebook.
I forgot my password. What shall I do?
Being logged out, click on the “Login” link on the top page. There you’ll see a “lost my password” link. Click and we’ll send you a new one.
When and why should I befriend somebody on Tupalo.com?
Befriending somebody is not about knowing each other in real life. It’s more relevant and fun when you start adding people that seem to share the same interest as you do. Furthermore you’ll also discover totally new things, and maybe new friends that are alike.
I have an existing Tupalo.com account but unintentionally signed up with Facebook or Twitter. What shall I do?
We kindly ask you to drop us a quick line at feedback with your existing Tupalo account and your new account created with your Facebook or Twitter login. We’re working on merging those with existing Tupalo accounts who want to login with their Facebook, Twitter or Hyves.nl accounts in the future.
How do I change my profile data?
Click on your username in the top right corner. There you’ll see an “edit profile” link which enables you to edit all your contact and profile details. Go for it!

Where does Tupalo.com retrieve its data from?
We have partnered with many leading European Yellow Pages publishers. Those partnerships include data agreements that make it possible for Tupalo to feature business information from millions of businesses around Europe and around the World. That’s big news for a small startup.
Is my data secure?
Yes. We strive to protect the data of our users and customers.
Is my E-mail address visible to anyone?
No. Users can contact you via private messages as long as you are friends with them.
Does Tupalo.com delete reviews?
Not often, but once in a while we unfortunately have to do it. If a reviews content is racist, sexist, abusive, polite or just plain shady then there is a good chance we will remove it. We strive to keep Tupalo a respectful service to both customers and business owners.

What should I review on Tupalo.com?
It’ actually rather simple. All the local businesses and services you love or don’t. Imagine how often people come up to you and let you know about their new favorite uber-cool bar or their disastrous new haircut. Tupalo.com is the place to let everyone know if your favorite local businesses and services, and whether they are doing a good job, or not.
How shall I review a business on Tupalo.com?
Just like you’d tell your best friend about it. Simple, descriptive, straight forward and above all, authentic.
What’s up with that “Karma Rank”?
We’ve built our very own and highly sophisticated Ranking System of Tupalo.com Users. Whenever you write reviews, discover new spots or link photos – this will raise your Karma points and eventually grant you access to the awesome Tupalo.com parties, Merchandise and other secret stuff we can’t tell you about just yet.
I just wrote a review, but it doesn’t show up – What’s happening?
It might be because you used our nifty “Mail 2 Review” feature. When writing a review without signing up but leaving your E-mail address, you have to confirm it via an e-mail we send you right after you submitted your review. Click on the activation link in that e-mail and your review will be submitted.
How should I phrase my reviews?
We have no actual code of conduct (yet), but write your reviews as you would say it to a good friend. Be honest, open and descriptive. If you just had a really bad experience, take a deep breath and calmly describe what went wrong, when and how the local business should have handled the situation. Abusive, fake or spammy reviews will not last long on Tupalo and really doesn’t help anyone in the long run.
I’d like to comment on someone’s review. Is this possible?
Definitely. Underneath every review you’ll see a “comment on this review” link. By clicking on it you can leave a comment on reviews. Enjoy!
Am I allowed to review businesses to which I am connected to?
Actually it would be better if you didn’t. The power of local business reviews on Tupalo lies in the fact that what’s written about local businesses remains objective and authentic. Local consumers, your customers, can tell when you’re writing about yourself, and in this age of the internet, users don’t want to be marketed to. If you want to become more involved in the way your business is represented on Tupalo, including adding a description to your business, we have some extremely affordable packages for businesses to engage their customers on Tupalo.com. Be it responding to reviews professionally, reacting to negative reviews or other interesting stuff. Please get in touch via business and we’ll send you some options we can offer you and your business.
Should I write a negative review about my competitors?
No, you shouldn’t. First, those types of reviews are obvious and can end up damaging you and your business’s credibility more than your competitor’s. Second, it’s just bad karma, and noone wants bad karma.
