A bit claustrophobic.
Seems like mostly metal but also some gems to be found. A bit out of the way, but worth a visit.

Delicious buckwheat crepe's, sweet or savory, for meat or veggie lovers in a wannabe French creperie atmosphere.
It somehow works.

Great coffee, baked goodies, and light meals (organic and veggie-friendly) served by friendly cute waitresses with artsy stuff on the wall in a diner atmosphere.

Delicious fresh salads and the biggest fluffiest quiche I have ever seen!
Slightly expensive.
Nice bright interior (lotsa daylight), perfect for a hot summer day.

Excellent food made from organic and locally grown foods!
Most things are also available vegan. Totally worth the slight increase in price. Many local beers and wines also available. Parking is a bit tricky, but who needs a car anyways.

It may be a dollar cheaper than your typical Everyday Music or 2nd Avenue Records, but I bought a CD and it wasn't still in a sealed case.
Made me wonder. Otherwise not a claustrophobic store, friendly staff, conveniently located for a stop over at Powell's.

A comfortable, inviting, non-corporate toy store with toys and games (educational or simply for fun) perhaps hard to find in other stores.
Brio and Playmobil abound here. Science and craft kits are also available. I used to buy Schleich Smurfs and other characters here. I'd also pick up a Manhattan Toy puppet here every once in a while to use with in my classroom. It's just a fun store to be in and many hands-on opportunities.

I love the falafel sandwich (my favorite in Vienna so far) which I also don't find expensive.
I don't bother with the less than ideal service and take the sandwich to go.

One of my all time favorite places to hang with a cozy living room atmosphere in a Victorian-style house.
It's been a while since I've paid a visit, since it's not right around the corner anymore, but last time I was there, the soups and cheese platter were great, not to mention an excellent choice of teas. Most nibbles are vegetarian. In the summer, the protected garden was a must. For people into hookahs, this is also an option for a summer day/evening.

My heaven!
The largest independent used and new bookstore in the world with multiple stores around Portland. The main one on Burnside is at least 4 storeys and occupies a whole city block. Prepare to spend many hours in here. Bring used books in for credit or cash. Buy reasonably-priced book...

Perhaps too convenient location.
Happy hour times and prices rock! (5-8 pm, 4,50 or so per cocktail)

The best!
Super duper local coffee. Shop on Belmont too...often has mini art exhibitions.

A great place to buy loose-leaf teas of all sorts, after trying a cup or two in the attached tea house.
Yummy snacks are also available.

I loved this place just for the bubble tea.
I never checked out the other events, but old movies are shown on movie nights.
Tea for home can also be purchased here.

Nice area to sit outside, self serve coffee, great assortment of scrambles and breakfast goodies.
Vegan options. Try a spicy bloody mary for breakfast. Yum.

Cheap, cheap breakfast.
Service not included. :P Okay, okay, I've personally experienced 30-45 minute delays, regular mix-ups with my orders at both Tunnel and its sister cafe, Merkur (http://tupalo.com/spot/425). I still go for a cheap breakfast though. I guess 2,50 including coffee and being less than a 2-minute walk from home can't be beat. The non-smoking section looks like a hospital waiting room. Disappointing.
