Freiraum - (3/5)

Been there for the very first time. The place is huge! I thought it'd be rather small but almost couldn't find a friend of mine who was waiting there for me. The design is light and friendly. The different areas seem to have different color schemes (subtly done). The food was good (at least, what we had) but a bit pricey.
The waitress was a little too concerned if everything's ok and fine and if we desired something else and what she could improve. On the one hand - cool, they do seem to care what their customers think. On the other - too much care can be quite annoying.

Update: The quality of the food is still good, the concern of the waiters is still present but toned down to a bearable and actually rather nice level.

Only drawback so far - their homepage does not hold as much information as I expected. And beware - there's music.

Update: After having been there for a couple of times now I have to admit that the service is a bit lax now, the quality of the food not too exciting...

Pure Living Bakery - (5/5)

For ages now I've wanted to see the Pure Living Bakery goodness for myself. The homepage is too promising but promises not too much (actually, not enough!). I immediately fell in love with the design - comfy couches, comfy chairs, everything is very light and bright and feels and looks like a weird mix of Dutch, French and Northern German (Hamburg) style. Almost everything has a price and can be purchased, it seems. When I was there they also had an amazing collection of furniture knobs, which actually made me consider drilling holes in stuff just to hae an excuse to purchase some.
As for the food - the selection can be admired when coming in. All the cookies, brownies, cakes, muffins and other sweet goods are presented at the entrance. Menus are on the tables but the order is being made right where the dreamy goods are (to make it really really to pick just one item). The chai was one of the best ones I've ever had (they are using Tiger Spice Chai) prepared with so much love that t...

Sebastiano - (5/5)

Discovered this place because it is conveniently close to the office. They not only have very nice tables to sit inside, in the back there is also a nice and cosy garden, which is quite enjoyable in summer. The menu changes in a regular basis. You won't find any pizza on the menu, though (at least, I haven't, so far). Instead, a lot of dishes with fresh sea food are served, as well as risotto, different variations of pasta. Sea food is their speciality, though. If we can believe the friendly bi-lingual waiter, it is fresh every single day you get there (no Tuesday-only deliveries but daily).

A bit on the pricey side but worth it.

I like the comfy-ness of the place as well as the fact that it is fairly easy to organize a small to medium event there. A short e-mail is suffice to book 5 or 10 tables, if required. They serve Bionade, which is a big plus.Definitely very smoky, which can be quite annoying.Nonetheless, a very geeky place I definitely like.

Comfortable lounging area in the back, tables in the front. Very nice to meet with a larger group of people. The waiters were, so far, quite friendly. The service is good, the food delicious (at least, the antipasti plate I've had the last time). Their iced tea is homemade with a strong hint of mint, which I actually liked.
All in all a good experience. Comfortable, relaxed, uncomplicated - just as I like it.

Lovely little shop I've noticed on my walk through Amsterdam. What started out as a market stall at The Waterloopleinmarkt has now become a lovely little store with various bag designs that come in all shapes and sizes. The fabrics used for the bags are either retro or Asian-inspired. The belts and purses are not only lovely but the prices are rather reasonable, regarding the quality and design of their pieces.
Friendly shop, friendly shop owner.
And if you don't happen to be in Amsterdam take a look at their webshop.

Since it's close to the office I occasionally drop by and use the rich buffet to prepare _my_ dish. The ingredients seem fresh, the option to pick them yourself and have them prepared right in front of your eyes is a nice plus but not overly exciting. Good thing is - I know how it's prepared. The price is a bit high but still reasonable. The business lunch is a lot cheaper and also quite good.Nothing outstanding but good solid food and lots of space, so if you decide to drop by with a larger group - finding a table is usually not a problem.

I liked the design, which is minimalistic but charming (every single table has its own description) - I especially liked the floor. We tried our way through the menu and did not encounter one dish we did not like (so far). The quiche was fantastic, served with a nicely done salad. The Salade niçoise was quite a nice portion, very tasty and served with some delicious bread. The crêpe, whose name I have forgotten, was served in a very original way - square and folded on the sides. The "filling" - plum jam and bacon. The tarte aux fruit was not too sweet, not too big - just right. Will definitely come back for more.

My favorite place in Vienna when I crave for chocolatey goods. There is everything the chocolate-lover's heart can possibly desire. Plain chocolate with different percentages of cocoa, filled chocolates with exotic and not so exotic fillings, chocolates sprinkled with lavender blossoms (edible) that do not only taste heavenly but look like small masterpieces. I won't even start naming names and listing ingredients. Better check out their page (they have a nicely sorted webshop) but what I can really suggest is going there yourself. The good souls of the shop always give very good advice on chocolate trouble and are always eager to help. If it's a gift make sure to ask them to wrap it up - looks nice and gives you a little more time to browse the goods.

Unitas Hotel - (4/5)

The Unitas Hotel was recommended by a friend who's stayed there before and she was right - it is not only a very reasonably priced hotel (****) but also nicely located. The Charles Bridge and other sights are in walking distance (5 minutes). Not far away (also about 5 minutes walking distance) is a metro station, so basically every sight in Praha can be reached in almost no time from the hotel. The rooms are actually quite roomy (old convent) and nicely decorated. Here's the list from their webpage: * King Size Beds * Imflammable Materials * Smoke Detectors * Air Condition * Minibars * Comfortable Working Desk * Internet Access Cabel / Wireless * LCD Screens with Sat TV and DVD Player * Direct Dial Phones * Large Safes for Notebooks (with Electric Outlet) The beds really are king size, the desk is definitely nice to work from, the the internet can either be accessed by the PC in the entrance hall or from each room (simply ask for the login da...

Coffee Fellows - (4/5)

When we decided to take a short break from all the sightseeing in wintery-cold Praha we came across this small and cosy coffee chain (most other locations seem to be in Germany). We ordered two salmon bagels, which were fresh, crispy, the salmon was absolutely delicious and the cream nicely spread on the bagel. The hot chocolate was thick, more like one of those chocolate custards/puddings than the hot chocolate normally served at cafes. The espresso was also rather good. The waiters were very friendly, spoke English and some German and were very helpful.Definitely a nice place to go for a hot drink in winter and a crispy bagel.

Tsing Tao - (2/5)

Something must have happened between the last time and two nights ago. I remember this place as being one of the best Dim Sum restaurants in Vienna. When asking a former co-worker of mine, who's married to a Chinese woman, if he knew any good restaurants he immediately recommended this and another one. And when I went there for the first time, it was different compared to our last experience. The dim sum-menu for two people didn't show much variety in the dishes served - everything included meat and tasted basically the same. Except the starters, which included spring rolls filled with vegetables. 4 steamer baskets later and the contents of the dim sum were still rather meaty, greasy and salty (except for the ramson variety, which was meaty, greasy, salty with a hint of ramson).Too soon we were full, stuffed, bloated and unable to continue eating. The dessert was rather interesting in texture and sweetness-factor.I do feel bad for suggesting going there.

A nice place that is unfortunately usually very packed when I decide to go there so making reservations beforehand might not be the baddest of all ideas. The food is good, the menu sometimes a little confusing and the place usually very packed and therefore not really inviting. Sitting outside in summer is very nice, though.

And it was yummy and cosy and the staff is extremely friendly and offered my company cinnamon for the dessert - because it tastes so much better with cinnamon.Speaking of desserts - the brownie tiramisu is to die for. As well as the sandwiches. The ones I've had so far were more than delicious. Very different from the pre-packed ones at Billa&Co.Has become one of my favorites immediately.

Wow. I had lamb there. Variations of lamb (raw, sausages) and I liked it - even though I usually hate the taste. Not only the lamb was great, everything else we've ordered (which was a lot) tasted superfine and supernice. Starting from the three different kinds of hummus, ranging from the differently filled samosas (spinach, cheese and meat) and ending in a heavenly blancmange that subtly tasted like rosewater.

I love the comfy couches and wing chairs and the ability to just relax and lounge there. It is one of the most comfortable places I know and this is one of the reasons I still like going there. What I dislike about the place is the impossibility to make reservations (for birthdays), the somewhat sometimes unfriendly waiter (not all of them, mind you) and the fact that the food isn't always "fresh" it seems (could've been bad luck but still rather unpleasant). All in all, a comfy place where I can enjoy a cup of tea or two and have incredibly deep philosophical talks with friends.

Paolo´s - (2/5)

Usually, I have to wait for a really long time to receive my desired food, which is only a little annoying when being on lunch break and not having that much time to wait in line. The first time I had to wait about 15-20 minutes for my pasta, because the sauce wasn't hot yet, then someone else received the wrong pasta and they had to re-do theirs before they could get to my order, then they had to re-heat my noodles because they've turned cold again in the process...The pasta comes in two sizes - huge and a little more huge. Which is a good thing. Don't order pasta if you're only a little hungry. The ciabattas come in interesting flavors and combinations, which all look delicious indeed and not only look like that. All in all, ok for lunch break or breakfast (yes, they do offer breakfast as well --> muesli and muffins and such) and the quality of the food is good but I do have a feeling that sometimes the people behind the counter are a little...lost.

The prices are quite decent and the chai a bit too milky but delicious nonetheless. Will definitely return and taste my way through the different breakfasts they offer (and they _do_ offer a nice and wide variety). Comfy place, interesting people, nice waiters, who are willing to add the desired cookie to the craving coffee consumer.

The waiters have always been friendly so far and the service is excellent. The pastries are quite delicious (diabetic versions are available as well) and should be tried, if possible. The waitress was very friendly and the owner (?) of the place engaged us in a rather amusing and definitely interesting discussion about Austria, Vienna and their royals and politicians. The tea was definitely good, comes in colorful mugs and is also served with honey.
EN Japanische Spezialitäten Restaurant - (5/5)

Definitely one of my top 5 Sushi restaurants in Vienna. The fish is of high quality and the food is freshly made. Their menu not only offers the usual dishes other restaurants offer. Squid in brine (loosely translated), as well as Nattoh (fermented soybeans) and reasonably priced Gozen. The food, in general, is reasonably priced regarding the quality and size.

Salzberg - (4/5)

The food is exceptionally good and in summer it is definitely nice to get a place outside. Since the Magdalenenstraße is a rather small street, not many cars will disturb the culinary experience. The "Brote" are huge and very well done but I just love the Topfenknöderl with Toblerone-filling with a strawberry-chili-sauce.

Oz Cinethek - (4/5)

Cosy place that offers a nice variety of movies. What I especially like about this place is the selection - so far, I spotted only "good" movies - as well as the categories. First rental that lets me search for directors, not only genres and titles.

Planet Harry - (5/5)

Planet Harry does not only offer everything the gamer heart can desire, he also brought Vienna the Vienna Fantasy Gaming convention, which gathers geeks and nerds once a year to come together and game, exchange stories and stock up on gaming equipment.Definitely my favorite spot to find comics and roleplaying equipment, as well as board games but he has a lot more to offer. Those are just my favorites. ;o)

Definitely experimental what they have to offer. The menu seems to change with the seasons. The ambience of the place is...well, one has to see it to believe it, I guess. The bathroom sink is definitely something one has to get used to.
