In the Spring / Summer months they have a lovely schanigarten on Siebensternplatz where you can 'borrow' the WLAN from neighboring Schultz, in true kpö style.

Prices are very reasonable and if you're into discussing politics and don't like leaving the 7th district, 7Stern is where you should be.

If you can get past the blinding pink of all Aida's interior, you're one step closer to experiencing Vienna's trashy coffee culture to its extreme. Hang out, have an espresso and listen to the older folks go on and on about everything from dog crap on the street, to the good old days, to the price of milk.

Bit smoky sometimes, but hey, you can't experience Vienna's coffee culture without it.

The employees are extremely nice, attentive and usually remember you after a few trips. All of the meals use extremely fresh ingredients and there are quite a few vegetarian and possibly some vegan options as well. Their tofu sandwiches are less than 3 EUR and one of the tastiest I've ever had.

DJ and live music events occur in the back room, which I think used to be an old meat-locker, only instead of slabs of beef hanging out, there is now trendy artwork from local Vienna artists.

Vegetarian meals, ok prices and sometimes has DJs spinning tolerable music at a tolerable volume level. Their vegetarian and vegan menus are sometimes hit and miss, but, usually a hit. Same for their waiting staff, who I must sadly admit are usually a miss.

It's a touch on the pricey side, but their bread is absolutely high quality, delicious and I don't feel as skanky eating it as I do when I'm eating the cheapest Ubahn station bread.

The service is always personal and friendly, though at times a bit slow when there is a line. The nice older lady behind the counter remembers me after my first visit and always tries to pre-guess my order before I even reach the counter.

The service is outstanding with some the friendliest employees I've ever met in the city. Their breads always taste super fresh and are amazingly delicious. A bit more expensive than your local Anker, but well worth it.

An ideal stop for a cup of coffee if you're in the first and want to avoid the horrid Starbucks pits which are popping up around the area.

Full of history, the Alt Wien was started by the Hawelka family in the late 30s before the start of their famed Cafe Hawelka (http://tupalo.com/spot/144) and is always a pleasant treat to visit and witness a different take on Vienna's coffee culture.

I. is a legend in the 16th, offering an all-day breakfast menu, a few vegetarian options, affordable coffee and a lovely, but always full, schanigarten in the spring/summer months.

C.I. also goes one step further, offering their neighbors German integration and language courses, beat that.

Europa has lots of style and flair, some of which will rub off on you while you're posing so artfully, enjoying your cup of coffee or Wiener Frühstück.

Also has a dark and hip danceclub hidden behind the backwall (which you can open by placing your hand on a futuristic security panel) featuring sometimes famous DJs spinning the latest house, techno and dance vinyl almost every evening.

The second home to many a thinking people over the last 60 or so years, the Hawelka has a charming dark and rough atmosphere, just like their coffee.

The service is outstanding usually by the owners themselves and their bakery smells so damn good that if it weren't for my whole being vegan thing I'd dive head first into their giant bowls of cake icing.

Their prices are extremely affordable and it's a great place to sit around and simply watch the incredible characters that also come for their daily cup of coffee.

Everything about it is amazing, from the lovely husband and wife team who run the place, to their incredibly affordable menu (large espresso and an apfeltstrudel runs you less than 5 EUR!), to the charming pictures from Richard Gere hanging up in the cellar.

The service is top notch and I can certainly say this is the best place to grab a quick and affordable coffee within the 7th.

The Nil is famous for it's fine Egyptian cooking and it's casual and friendly atmosphere. The coffee is incredible. The only problem I have with Nil is the amount of cigarette smoke! In the winter months you get a giant mouthful of throat choking cigarette smoke when getting into the door. I don't see the smoking problem in Vienna going away anytime soon I'm afraid.

Inside the cafe is covered in dark wood floors, shiny glass and surprisingly pleasant waiting staff. Coffee is quite ok, though, no soy milk, but hey, what can ya do?

Free and fast WLAN is a huge plus.

The service has always been good for me, their coffee is nice and smooth and sitting in the Sperl always gives you the feeling you're in old-time Wien enjoying a cheap cup of joe.

Prices are quite ok for Vienna, though, there certainly are cheaper options, but why miss-out on the history and atmosphere of the Sperl just to save a few Euro-cents?

This Moser in Wien 1010 is perfectly situated on one of the liveliest streets in the famous first district of Austria, so sitting outside on the sidewalk pays off if you are in the mood for a little people watching to go along with your coffee, bagel and scenic view.

Gelato has been around for over 100 years and is world famous for both their ice cream and their location.

But, that's not all. Gelato specifically offers a daily VEGAN ICE CREAM flavor for those of us who prefer no animal hormones in our after-dinner treats. Bam!

This place is usually packed, so large groups beware, you probably won't find a spot during the rush time periods.

Right in the middle of MQ's 'Electric Avenue', you can take two-steps next door into the book shop, buy the latest issue of Architectural Digest and head back into Kantine for a coffee and afternoon of comfortable and warm reading time.

Has quite a few options for vegetarians, but the vegan options are a bit slim, but hey, it's getting there. The tofu-salad is always fresh and knusprig.

Interior is nice and clean, featuring 2 floors and comfortable, casual seating around darkwood tables with gentle music throughout.

The food is filling and quite affordable, since it seems students are Ronahi's primary demographic. Oh, Ronahi provides free wireless internet, so, expect to be surrounding by a handful of students clacking away on their keyboards while downing a bowl of hummus.

OH, one more thing, they have DR PEPPER on the menu. You Amerikanskis know what I'm talking about.

From every type of Gardenburger variety you can imagine, to a frozen foods section which takes up a whole wall, full of hard to find vegan food varieties.

Talley's also has a very large deli, which has daily vegetarian and meat-mouth lunch specials, a large salad bar and some damn good vegan chocolate chip cookies which are about the size of a small child's head. Eat-in or takeaway, you can always grab the daily special for lunch, then take 10 steps and buy the ingredients fresh so you can cook it at home.

4 floors of reading pleasure including a nice little sit-down cafe overlooking the ants walking down the street below. Thalia even has a nice and new English section with many of the newest English best-sellers.

The Theaters are small and cozy, usually showing independent or cutting edge films mixing in a few classics here and there, often times in English. The sound quality and screen quality seem to be quite ok, just be prepared for the projector operator to sometimes edit the reels out of sync, leaving you watching a film completely out of order. The time it happened to me was amusing and not the end of the world and we even got a free movie pass from Top afterwards.

Their bar is packed in the evenings full of beautiful people listening to beautiful DJ mixes drinking beautiful drinks while doing everything they can to get the attention of everyone in the room.

Their prices are surprisingly ok, the coffee is good and they have an excellent tofu dish on the menu. Hopefully they keep it up and start offering a little more veggie/vegan dishes for us non-meat mouths.

As well as loud live music, they also have movie nights, meetings, solis, a small bar and usually some form of vegetarian meal on the menu.

Always a pleasure to step outside and hear a live band disturbing a posh upper-class / diplomats neighborhood.

You can tell the workers and owner put a lot of thought into creating a comfortable environment for everything from having cocktails, to watching fashion shows, to pondering over tech talks.

Free WLAN, prices are quite ok, the owner is usually hanging out and making sure customers are happy. What else can you ask for?
