Palffygasse 2
2500 Baden bei Wien

They got a huge all you can eat buffet, especially on weekends (careful: you pay only half for the buffet on weekdays).

the coolest part is an area of the buffet which is stuffed with fresh fish, vegetables, squid, meat, all unprepared: you just take whatever you like of it, give your filled plate to the cook, tell him how you want it prepared (teryaki, mango-sauce, thai-style, ....) and he does that right in front of you.
of course they also have sushi, maki, and the "typical" chinese stuff like grilled duck, soursweet pig, ...

if there is one single reason to travel to baden, and there isn't, it would be to go to this place. it is just opposite the trainstation, so you don't even have to endure anything else.

it is big enough to find almost everything you care about but not so big that you would get lost in it. folks there don't mind if you just sit down and read in a book without buying it, which is really cool.

i just had the worst café experience in vienna so far, and it was in this place.

geez, where to start.
we went there because all punsch-standln at rathausplatz had already closed, and sat on a table.
time passed.
a waiter went by.
time passed.
another waiter went by, saying that his waiter colleague would be with us in a minute.
time passed.
after about 20 minutes, in which we tried to convince at least 4 waiters which all told us that either ours wasnt their table to serve (or at least take away the empty glasses left behind by whoever was there before us...) or told us that the guy responsible would be with us in a minute.
well, sooner or later (later, actually), a waiter came, and told us that it was our fault that no one came, since we were on a table so secluded from the rest of the café. (stupid f*ck)
i told him that i do not feel as if i had to apologize for them setting up tables in a manner that they cant see them anymore.
he took the old glasses (still there..) but didn't take our order.
appr. 5 minutes later another waiter came, taking our order.
at least 15 minutes later, two of us (four) got a glass of what was supposed to be a chai latte, but instead was a glass of hot milk plus a teabag. the greater plan was revealed: by the time the teamilk was steeped we would get our coffee to go with, so that all of us would be able to drink at the same time? maybe throw in a prayer for the house?
well, later the coffee came, and looked like it actually was made on time, but then forgotten and alone left at the bar for the waiter to be picked up, who did nothing but tell the poor cups that he wasnt responsible for them, and that his colleague would be with them shortly.
well, after an hour we had our teas and coffees, and after leaving wont ever return to the café einstein.

Liechtensteinstraße 44

definetly the worst of the seven "Centimeter" franchises in vienna - speaking about those i tried so far.

the beer is good - but the food is rather cheap, as in every Centimeter, but here they let you taste the difference. Cold food, wrong food (sometimes what you ordered was just not what you got), you can have it all.
But you get big servings, and the price is absolutely reasonable.
if you ever go there, try the chicken wings (those actually really are good) or the huge salad (we're talkin' 13 inch plate filled to the top here).
But as long as you can choose: just don't go in there in the first place.

EDIT: oh damn, i totally forgot to mention the music :D
this is like serious(ly) shi*t. it seems there are 5 different Centimeter-mix-CD's, featuring the worst music of the last 3 decades, like scooter, followed by "poison" (alice cooper), followed by the bacardi song, followed by eiffel 65, the whole "room 101" playlist. now, only 20-24 songs fit on a CD, so after like 74 minutes the horror starts again.

run of the mill beisl, food looked good, beer was...

well beer. nothing bad, but nothing especially worth mentioning.
service was really slow. REALLY slow. made me think that they maybe have some kind of second profession in the cellar. maybe bending paper clips out of old ship parts. a waitress having to bend 200 paperclips a night out of a piece of titanic between serving beer would at least partially explain why it takes half an hour to get a beverage. they should specialize on the paper clip thing and put up beer vending machines at the bar.
but what still is a mystery is how dirty the place looks - actually the mystery would be WHY it looks so dirty...

Closed Unplugged
Liechtensteinstraße

Reviewed 09. Jun 2009

we had our stage debut with our theatre group there last sunday.

at first i have to say the positive things:
even though the stage is designed for bands, not theatre, it worked out quite well. only one of the spots was broken, and after playing around for a while we even managed to get non-flickering spots for the stage.
what is remarkable is that as a young group/band with the unplugged you can easily get a stage and you do not have to pay for it, as long as you get 50 people to come to your concert.
now for the cons:
half an hour after we had arrived there, the waitress reminded us of the 60 people we have to achieve. wait, 60, you say? yes, magically and suddenly the limit was raised by 20 percent.
in the end about 90 people came, and the place was really crowded. we played our scenes, and afterwards some people left, many stayed.
at around half past 11 the waitress told everyone that it's curfew, and we have to leave.
why, we asked. because "our people don't drink enough", we were told. suddenly it did not matter anymore that we had brought more than those 50-60 people to visit this dump.
so, instead of staying and probably consuming more beer, we left.

to sum it up: the unplugged has a benchmark of around 55 people you have to bring along as a band, (and if less than those ~55 come, you have to pay the difference of what was consumed and 600 €) but if they shouldn't drink enough, you'll still be thrown out long before the closing hours.
