), crowded and smoky at night.

The Urania is a well-known building / school / cinema, but it also contains a cafe / restaurant which is quite nice.

Fancy interior, decent food, nice view.

Yes I am not kidding.

This BAWAG branch has a pretty nice cafe inside. To the best of my knowledge it does not have another name. It's a standard Viennese cafe, if a bit small. They serve some food too. Great for when Delia's is closed. It's perhaps the best-hidden cafe since TWA closed theirs.

One of the nicer traditional cafes in Vienna.

Their 'fast' food is nice. I recommend the Sauerkraut and the Cremespinat.

Michaelerplatz 2

Reviewed 01. Jul 2007

Not super cheap (hey, it's right next to the Hofburg), but one of the better traditional Viennese cafes around this neck of the woods.

Their food is good (especially the Kaiserschmarren, yum) and their interior is not run-down like some other traditional cafes.

Nice, small cafe / bar.

Modern styling, nice interior decoration. A good place to go for a drink around this area.

Since I cannot edit my original rating, I am giving this five stars.

Also, I am increasing my number of reviews with this bogus text. Yay gaming the system!

Relatively small but nicely decorated cafe.

It's modern architecture (none of that 'pay us more because we haven't changed our interior for 50 years' crap here), but cozy. They have pretty good coffee, hot chocolate, drinks, and small snacks. They are #1 in Vienna for most elaborate fringe benefits added to your coffee: they once served it to me with a raspberry in an ice cube in the glass of water, and a small bowl of whipped cream on the side. And they are great for spending time between picking up your reserved tickets and going to see a movie at Artis. Oh, nice terrace in summer too.

Very nice but quite small (doy) cafe in the middle of the 1st district.

Very cool terrace in the summer. Their Bauernomelettes are the best omelettes in town I know of.

Fancy interior, friendly staff.

The food is not cheap (12E entree, 20+E plat, 9E dessert). The onion soup I had was ample and warming though.

Duchgestyltes cafe / cocktail bar on the Mariahilfer Strasse.

Very nice ambiance, good coffee and drinks in the evening. Although the selection is limited, the food is nice too.

The actual address is Burggarten - it is the big glass-roofed building inside the Burggarten.

But this site can't handle that address (yet? :P)

Well-known place. Central location. Cool architecture. Nice in summer and winter. Hard to get a seat outside in summer. Good for coffee, drinks, food. Food is nice but slightly too expensive for what it is. But it remains almost always a good place to go.

A very cute patisserie with all the cakes, biscuits and other sweet creations you could want.

Friendly service. I've only tried their madeleines so far, but they were great. It's also a cafe / restaurant.
