One of the first Ice Cream & Chocolates Shops you will spot when you go to Amsterdam is Australian Homemade Premium (Belgium).
Their slogan is "Only natural ingredients" and the store in Leidstraat 101 is the largest of the three shops in Central Amsterdam (Spui 5, Leidsestraat 101, Singel 437) with extended opening hours and some extra seatings.
Sensational ice cream (it really tastes good and you can see always a lot of folks enjoying their ice cream cones) - last time I had vanilla ice cream with a Belgian wafer and hot cherries (fresh strawberries, caramell sauce, choclate sauce are also available).
The smell of fresh chocolate is overwhelming there as well and the nicely arranged and with symbols decorated choclate (with an explanation of flavours) is pretty good - a box with an organic version is even in Bio-Shops available. Both, my boyfriend and me, are very happy customers :-)

The IJsbreker is situated at a very nice area - the Weesperzijde, which is also called the "golden part of Stadsdeel Oost" - at the Amstel river with big trees.
In the summer the big terrace by the riverside in the front is great to sit and to watch people passing by. On a rainy day its also fine sitting inside - the part in the front with the big windows is as good as when you`re sitting outside - but there is also a large area in the back with more space. It is a very peaceful place to spend a couple of hours for reading the news, a good book or drinking a cup of tea & coffee.
The Ijsbreker has a very long history. In the 17th and 18th century the building was used as a guesthouse where in winter the persons who broke into the ice of the frozen Amstel River (ijsbrekers) used to stay. The guesthouse burnt down in the 19th century but the new building by the same architect van Gent, who also built "Het Concertgebouw" in Amsterdam, kept the original name.
It was later used as a meeting place for the social party, female organizations ("Vrouwen zonder corsetten"), it is said that Ajax was founded there and Geert Mak, a famous Dutch writer whose books are also translated into English, wrote about the history of the "Ijsbreker" (in Dutch: ”een bres in de stad”).
In 1979 De Ijsbreker opened as a café with a theatre and music centre and over the years thousand of concerts where given, sometimes also books where presented. After 25 years the music centre moved to the "Nieuwe Muziekgebouw" at t' IJ - where it still has its place in the 21st century.
As written earlier - today De Ijsbreker is still a popular place where it is nice go for a drink or something to eat during the day while enjoying the great view of the Amstel River - which is nowadays not very often frozen anymore :-)

Hard to find if you do not know it - this "big tent" is about 5-10 minutes walk from the arrival on the NDSM-werf (you get there from central station by ferry) and therefore quite an insider tip.
It is a very nice trip on a sunny day and you find there relaxed alternative people having lunch or a cup of coffee.

Het is het beste mainstream bioscoop in Amsterdam - zaal 1 is echt mooi.
Soms worden ook live opera´s op lijnwand gespeeld. Echt fantastisch!

This very modern building of the public library and biggest library of the Netherlands is easy to find and reach, because it is nearby the central station.
The architecture, the broad offer and nice cosy chairs make this place to something, where you like to spend many peaceful and relaxed hours - with and without reading :-) Check your emails or surf in the internet for free - also Apple computers are there - check some books or play the piano. The lowest level is for the children with really nice spiral-bookshelfs, newspapers and magazines can be found in the back of the entry level, multimedia is on the first floor, on the next levels are books on literature, travelling, history, art, music, health, study and economics. On the top level there is a theater and a restaurant (La Place) with a beautiful view. Since the library opened in 2007 it is a highlight in our "tourist programme" for our visitors. Open till 22 hours. Enjoy!

From the outside very underrated.
Excellent food and drinks - a very a large menu (I had duck), excellent prepared. Nice special "authentic" atmosphere with decoration like a big golden buddha. We spent a very nice evening there.

Schöner Gastgarten - in dem es sich nach einem Spaziergang am Wenzelsplatz und im Franziskanischen Garten gerne bei traditionellen Gerichten und einem kühlen Bier verweilen lässt.

All you can eat!

(Modern) souvenirs of Dutch-Design and Designers - from tulip vases made in Delft-blue to paper ones - more special souvenirs available than in usual souvenir-stores in the centre.
In the room downstairs there are exhibitions.

Some British males wouldn't go shopping to this store, because of the name.
I bought in this Dutch chain with clothing for the whole family an organic cotton T-Shirts with a smiley and a shirt with a big heart on it - they call it Special Basics ...and I quite like them :-) In some stores, e.g. at Magna Plaza, also bathroom towels and other products & household accessories are sold and it is possible to have a short coffee or lunch-break.
