Cha-No-Ma - (5/5)

Finally a place serving good green tea in Vienna! I especially recommend the gyokuro shuppin with its intense and wonderfully fresh flavour.

Oh, and they have a good range of onigiri and Japanese sweets like daifuku - ideal for those who (like me) can't digest lactose and have to look for non-dairy-based sweets.

Delicious, authentic Mexican food. Home made tortillas, really spicy salsas, rare delicacies like Cuitlacoche and... and... and. All in all lots of things you do not normally expect in Vienna, where "Mexican" restaurants are typically low-quality Tex-Mex joints run by people who have never been to Mexico.

Vietnam Restaurant - (4/5)

One of the better Vietnamese places in Vienna. Recommendation: ignore the 1970s China kitsch decor and the Chinese and "Thai" parts of the menu. The Vietnamese food is really good, on par with what they serve at the Saigon in the 16th district. Very nice (if tiny) garden directly adjacent to a quiet park.

Saffron - (5/5)

A great brasserie style place, featuring contemporary Cornish cuisine with a slight French/mediterranean twist. Definitely recommended to everybody who - like me - has less than fond memories of 1980s British cuisine (you know, the time when you got bland, industrially produced grub almost everywhere) and wants to experience just how much it has changed for the better since then. Saffron's chef proves that the cuisine of Cornwall can easily be on par with that of its sister country, Brittany.

Hanoi Express - (4/5)

My favourite place in Truro... a cool bar and seafood-centred brasserie in a defunct chapel. Great food, good wine, strong coffee, unobtrusive lounge music during the day, a few tables outside for sunny days (although you'd miss out on the design of the place!) not expensive - especially not at lunchtime. Oh, and free WLAN as well.

Kathmandu Palace - (3/5)

Nice Nepalese restaurant in the heart of Truro. Extremely friendly and welcoming staff - if you don't want to chat with the owner but prefer a cold and efficient atmosphere, this may not be the right place for you though.

Food is quite good, with the one caveat that most of the dishes on the menu are not in fact Nepalese but pretty standard Anglo-Indian fare, although very well done. I'd definitely recommend going for the real deal, i.e. the Nepalese dishes with their characteristic mixture of the tastes of lime, onion, coriander, chili, and masala.

YUME - (1/5)

Kuishimbo - (5/5)

Having spent four summers in a row in Japan in the late 1990s, I never got rid of a very strong craving for authentic Japanese food. Kuishimbo is a place where I can finally get unadulterated Izakaya fare with a Southern Japanese twist: Okonomiyaki from Hiroshima, Kasutera from Kyushu (a 15th century Portuguese influence) and many more delights. This is the real thing, not the usual, in-flight menu style pan-Asian fusion crap many Viennese seem to love. If you are looking for a recommendation and have no objections against raw squid, then try the Ika-Natto. It is heavenly.
