Closed Bar Urania
Uraniastraße 1
1010 Vienna

Reviewed 29. Mar 2007

Urania cafe has a nice view of donaukanal and when it gets dark you can enjoy the light-show on the UNIQUA building on the other side.

They have a good espresso, the ambient is nice, but as other noted somewhat fancy. And you know, in fancy places the food is good-looking, cool, experimental, but you'll stay hungry :)

This is one of the better bakeries around.

They favor vollkorn and have few really good tasting things like the Spinat-schafkäse Tasche. They also offer freshly squeezed carrot, orange and apple juices and the staff is really friendly too.

I really love this place.

It's one of the rare places where you can get something decent to eat after midnight. It has WLAN and these huge windows looking to Zollergasse. Add a cup of Schwarztee mit Rum, und what else do you need in life?

Oh I loved this place.

Very boboesque but with touch of a Kaffehaus flair. If I lived in Prague, this is where I'd drink my coffee. Food was delicious, so was the espresso. Perfect!

A very indie and boboesque (well after all it's in the middle of 7th district) restaurant whose menue has 6 different burgers and few desserts of the day.

I ordered the classic one and quite enjoyed it. From that day on, I'm having really hard time going to McDonalds ;-)

The only thing I know about this place (I was there once) that it has a huge aquarium on the entrance with very scarry looking fishes that ruined my day.

Closed Kantine
Museumsplatz 1
1070 Vienna

Reviewed 27. Mar 2007

This is my favourite place to start the day.

They have a daily menue and some of the meals I've tried were so good that I had to congratulate the chef personally. Service personnel is very very friendly, it has a nice and very sunny garden and WLAN both indoor and in the garden. The only catch is that it's often overcrowded - it seems that I am not the only person that likes this place ;-)

I've even spotted the Backgammon and Chess boards, so there's an idea for a perfect afternoon!

Closed Kantine m101
Mariahilferstrasse 101
1060 Vienna

Reviewed 26. Nov 2007

Kantine m101 is somewhat of an insider tip: it let's you escape the Mariahilferstreet madness and have a decent meal in the Innenhof.

It really is a local kantine for many architects working in nearby offices and it features two daily menues which don't cost much (5-7 Euros) and taste really good. The only thing that bothers me a bit is it's interior: although pretty slick (designed by a local architect) it's somewhat depressing ;-)

In sommer there's a garden in the innenhof. I think it's closed sundays.

Although the interior is stylish and slick it somehow appeared a bit boring and fake, there is (except the food) nothing really afro-caribbean about it.

The food on the other hand was reaaaaally good, I enjoyed it.

Closed Old Bridge
Stuwerstraße 22
1020 Vienna

Reviewed 03. Apr 2008

This is one of the best restaurants with bosnian/balkan cuisine in Vienna.

The atmosphere is cozy, the meals are just like at home and in difference to most of restaurants in 15th/16th district, they won't bomb you with turbofolk. They deliver in 1020. I recommend "Gefüllte Paprika" or Cevapcici if you want to know how they really should taste.

Gumpendorferstrasse 10-12

One of my favourite places.

A concept somewhat similar to Das Moebel, but they also have books and lps and lot of other stuff that make it friendlier, warmer and more cozy than moebel.

Free wlan (just ask for the password). Be sure to try Bionade Holunder, my favourite drink there.

Yeah, it's a bit posh but I like its british colonial style and a ridiculously huge choice of alcohols.

The cocktails are really good, although bit expensive (~8 Euros). Well, everything is actually expensive, but still, it has an unmatched atmosphere.

A cool designer restaurant.

I like the lounge that is also used as an exhibition room (seen some cool paintings), its comfortable couches and the high ceilings. The food is quite good, but somewhat too experimental and few euros too expensive for my taste. Looks like they have a WLAN access but it's encrypted, so you should ask for password. The only bad thing about it is that it's bit off my everyday path.

I have no idea how this great place got such bad reviews.

It must be the reviewers :)

The (la mien) noodles taste really great, the service is very friendly and relatively fast. Ok, the cocktail bar in the basement is strange but it has nice gimmicks - like flip a coin where you don't have to pay for the cocktail if you win.

Phil is across the street, so what I prefer is eating noodles and then heading to phil for something sweet and coffee.

This is such a great place: the food is great, both in quality and choice, but not too expensive, the shiraz they served is one of the best wines I've tried recently.

And yes, they're open and serve food after midnight. The basement with its séparées manages not too look too kitchy and on the it's quite romantic. The service is great too. This place rocks.

Indeed, a bit pricey (10-15 Eur for a Schnitzel) but the food is excellent.

If you plan on having lunch in the garden around the noon, it'd be smart to make a reservation.

Vapiano is what I call the "healthy fast food".

It features really good pizzas and one of the best pasta bolognese (try it with "dinkel fusili") I've tried. I like the fact that you can have gummi bärchen at exit. That always makes my day ;-)

WerkzeugH is a really cool place.

The food is excellent, the visitors and regulars are cool people, the staff, the wlan, the garden, the fact that they serve Club Mate, Makava and other less known beverages... The only bad thing about it is that it opens in the afternoon, so you can't have breakfast there. Or maybe you can, if you tend to get up late ;-)
