can i move in, please?
i unfortunately only spent a short time (and everything under an hour or two is too short!) in there, or should i say fortunately because in about 15 to 20 minutes i found 5 books plus i wanted to take home with me. i remembered my small carry on bag in time and left with a magazine, vegan cookbook and the latest Vonnegut collection (i miss the man!).
wonderful place with great funny staff and i cannot wait to get back.

this spot offers an odd mix of american fashion and lifestyle magazines, trashy novels, Simpsons and Spongebob toys and gay porn.
on rare occasions i get my American Vogue here, the staff is helpful and friendly enough.

this is an amazing little spot: browse through books for hours, new and used, fiction and non-fiction, out of print, trashy paper backs, etc.
and when you finally get hungry go to the cafe across the hall and have a nice lunch and/or dinner, punk rockers with nice tattoos will serve you even.

if you love books but can't or don't want to spend a fortune to fill up your book shelves, this is the place for you.
i hardly leave this place empty-handed: marvin gaye biographies, pretty & heavy artbooks, cook books or the latest novel by the new hip young writer. in one word: a bibliophile's paradise!
browse for hours and have an employee compliment your choice of brainfood on your way out.

this awesome shop/cafe is run by a group of people who are or were struggling with mental problems and are trying to get back on their feet in a safe working environment.
great selection of used books (nice english language section) and vinyl. helpful and friendly staff and a great little cafe to hang out and browse your new purchases in.

Sjakoo stole from the rich and gave to the poor and hid in a web of tunnels underneath the city.
awesome, right? and the word awesome definitely describes this international bookstore perfectly. stuffed with hard to find radical literature, both new and used, in many different languages, magazines, folders and flyers and run by friendly and knowledgeable volunteers. this is a leftie's dream come true! bought a great and really helpful Amsterdam guide called "Get Lost" here.

Toll!

thalia (how is miss the name amadeus!
) is a great book store, especially the english literature, the cook books and the kids books sections are pretty impressive.
but what i especially like about this store is its cafe. grab a few glossy art books and pricey magazines, order a coffee and read for hours.
the ground floor offers office and artist supplies en masse.
and the location cannot be topped.

This bookstore has the largest and most up to date assortment of english literature of all kinds.
the staff is knowledgeable but can be snobby at times. wonderful for hours of browsing.

The first district-BB's smaller sister.
conveniently located right around the corner of MQ, smaller assortment but it's still hard to leave this store empty-handed. i wish it was a little less pricey.
