Charming waitresses, pink-brown interior, cheap coffee and numerous locations all over town, that's Aida for you.
The cake is delicious, my favourite is their Apfelstrudel, so try a piece, why don't you?

nicely located across the Apollo Cinema which attracts a lot of the movie-goers that have some time to kill before their movie starts.
coffee was good and when i spilled most of it over the whole table staff was nice and helpful.
other than that this place is your average cafe/bar.

this is an amazing little spot: browse through books for hours, new and used, fiction and non-fiction, out of print, trashy paper backs, etc.
and when you finally get hungry go to the cafe across the hall and have a nice lunch and/or dinner, punk rockers with nice tattoos will serve you even.

Samstag 06.00 - 17.00

not that i plan on going there at 5:30 am anytime soon but it's good to know i could!
nice light interior, good selection of nice looking breads, the soy latte comes w/ no extra charge which is the fast lane to my coffee-craving heart.
three kinds of free water, mint-lemon, fruit and plain.
self service at the coffee-bar, brown sugar available.
great location.
i like!

a nice and cosy spot with original 50ies interior, good coffee, nice local soda brands, friendly staff but a lazy dish washer.
so make sure to check your glass or cup for stains before taking that first sip.

everything about this place is lovely.
the couple that runs it is charming and funny, the service is great, coffee is strong and cheap and the apfelstrudel is a must on saturdays after lunch. love it!

cafe nil has really tasty coffee, a good variety of vegan/vegetarian dishes and a stack of newspapers to peruse while you are waiting for your bowl of hummus.
the staff is really nice and it seems half of the place is strictly non-smoking now. hooray!

Great interior from the 50ies, in white, pale pink and beige.
Grumpy way too busy waiters, so be prepared to wait a while until you get some attention. Coffee is good, apfelstrudel is fresh and delicious.

Nettes Cafe in wunderschönem Jugendstilgebäude.

Verschlafenes Kaffeehaus in zentraler Lage.

nice newish breakfast place in the heart of the 7th district.
serves soy lattes and has a very young and hip but friendly clientele.
shows art and has the occasional musical event

this awesome shop/cafe is run by a group of people who are or were struggling with mental problems and are trying to get back on their feet in a safe working environment.
great selection of used books (nice english language section) and vinyl. helpful and friendly staff and a great little cafe to hang out and browse your new purchases in.

a small and charming new addition to one of my favourite streets in this town.
sells coffee, soups, sweets and sandwiches, has a few tables to hang out for a bit but mostly caters to the busy take-out folks. i only went in to check out the joint and get a business card but left with a delicious soy latte to go that was prepared by a friendly young lady with a charming accent. i will be back.

i still prefer the atmosphere of a good old-fashioned austrian cafe but i'll leave it to the mocca club: their coffee is delicious.
a big plus in my book is the fact that they serve their coffees with soy milk and have free wifi for that quick facebook update check.
the place is open until midnight, the service was unenthusiastic and some of their chairs and tables are just way too wobbly.
not a fan of the decoration either.

Mäni's is a lovely spot, serves great coffee, opens early, has vegan-friendly breakfast options (great tofu scramble) and makes pretty amazing vegan chocolate chip cookies and pancakes.
healthy and nice food in a nice atmosphere, and the only place in LA where i ALMOST had a celebrity sighting. "yeah, that was anne heche walking out just now." oh well.

finally neubau has its own little video rental store, what took it so long?
- a membership costs 8 Euro per year but if you become a member before may 2008 your first year is free. how nice.
- 3, 60 Euro per movie and night (return the movie before 10 pm), return it the same day and it's half price
- the people running the place are friendly and helpful, they like suggestions for new movies and even ask you how you liked you
r pick.
- arthouse, tv-shows, horror, hitchcock, etc etc.
- nice living room athmosphere, sit down, have a coffee and a chat after browsing.
- now put on your ruby red slippers and support your local rental place.

this place is a lot of things: cafe, meeting point for people that like movies and literature, ex pats, etc.

thalia (how is miss the name amadeus!
) is a great book store, especially the english literature, the cook books and the kids books sections are pretty impressive.
but what i especially like about this store is its cafe. grab a few glossy art books and pricey magazines, order a coffee and read for hours.
the ground floor offers office and artist supplies en masse.
and the location cannot be topped.
