Big vegetarian restaurant where you stand in line to get served at a counter, just point at what food you would like.

the staff's english isn't great but just look around you and ask for help, someone will be able to figure out what is vegan and what isn't. the cuisine is hearty and simple but filling and very cheap. a big plate of stew and grains costs 3 € and the day we went a great fruit salad was available.
good central location and a good way to fill your belly while traveling.

your average chinese restaurant in central location.

i had the lunch special (tofu with veggies) a few times and even though the ingredients are fresh, the dish just tastes a little too blah, a little too average.
not very vegan-friendly either.

Mäni's is a lovely spot, serves great coffee, opens early, has vegan-friendly breakfast options (great tofu scramble) and makes pretty amazing vegan chocolate chip cookies and pancakes.

healthy and nice food in a nice atmosphere, and the only place in LA where i ALMOST had a celebrity sighting. "yeah, that was anne heche walking out just now." oh well.

good for a quick lunch/snack when you are in the area and need a quick food fix.

i had the lentil soup which was good and cost an ok-ish 3, 50. i guess, that's cheap in the first district.
there seems to be a daily lunch menu, salads and sandwiches, too.

small place that has a good selection of (organic?

) fruit and vegetable and serves a lunch special. only the cabbage was vegan, though, the rest of the food was covered in cheese. after a frustrating discussion about pasta with the older gentleman claiming that pasta without egg doesn't stick together, i left hungry and feeling like a cranky vegan asshole.

rustic austrian restaurant, packed with first district office workers, overdecorated walls and a slight fake countryside inn feel going on.

all i could order was a salad, that arrived tossed in yoghurty dressing. but vegans are not really their target group, so i don't blame them.
service was friendly.
