Really very good rental store, even though I do feel that the overnight fees are a bit hefty.
But I guess that's the price to pay for a superb selection and staff that actually knows their way around movies that don't feature Steven Seagal.

Right at the beginning of the Augarten Park, the Atelier Augarten provides people with a cafe that serves some nice hot beverages.
The interior is rather modern, but not in an uncomfortable way.
When you've seen enough of the crumbling Flak tower, go there to relax.

Set in a rather shabby part in a rather shabby district of Vienna (well, it's true.
It just isn't really pretty, that district), Augustin is a great surprise. Not only does its exterior work hard on betraying the splendid interiour, the food is also quite delicious and plentiful.
Decked out in Biedermeier sofas, chandeliers, sturdy wooden tables and loads of candles, Augustin is as cozy as it can get. The fact that almost every night there's a chap playing the piano, only adds to the undeniable charm of the place.
Foodwise I opted for nothing less than a Bauernkotelett (farmer's cutlet), which consisted of tender grilled pork, covered in loads of roasted onions, with fried potatoes, little cubes of bacon and pole beans on the side.
The only problem with the cozy interior of Augustin is, that sitting on a sofa as soft as the one we sat on, means, that your food sits somewhere on eye level, which makes it a tad difficult to eat (having been confronted with that dire situation myself, here's a trick that actually works: simply sit on a chair for the duration of the meal!).
Here's just a small thing I'd like for the owners to do. Update your website! While I think your Bauernkotelett was worth every single cent I paid for it, advertising your food roughly three Euros cheaper than it actually is, may be frowned upon by people less lenient than me!
Anyway, I absolutely recommend going to Augustin, especially round eight, when the pianist will be playing one of his tunes, while you, stuffed with most exquisite Austrian foods, can recline on a sofa with cigarette in mouth and beer in hand.

Which is exactly what I like.
I wish they had a much wider selection of beef jerky.

One of the best, if not the best cinema in town that focuses on English language films.
Showing "The Third Man" once every week.
Two screens, the large one even has an old-school gallery. Make sure not to get seats next to pillars, otherwise you'll suffer from craned-neck syndrome after a while.
No fresh popcorn, packed only.

Well, can't really share fabbaz' enthusiasm here.
While they may have a very nice selection for a non-chain bookstore, it's not exactly overwhelming.
I still prefer Thalia.

Fucked up cafe by day, surprise dungeon at night.
Seriously.
It's where everyone goes after it gets boring at Chelsea's or everything else has closed up.
Don't let the absence of light fool you. Just knock, you will be let in and can move down to the basement, which is a cozy little dungeon, complete with a fantastic mixture of people and a tiny, tiny dancefloor.

Great music, relaxed atmosphere, nice audience.

A charmingly trashy place.
Food straight from the micro, but alright tasting and very reasonably priced.
Below mentioned "Koksi" can drastically cut short your evening, mainly due to its inconspicuous taste and below average price (both factors prove fatal for people who usually measure their alcohol intake by taste or wallet).

I really liked the old Drechsler, and while I think it's a good thing to not let something like that just die, I'm not a huge fan of the redecoration.
The food is alright, but for someone like me, portions are a bit small. And they only have small beers.

Fabbaz' review is quite accurate, but I'd like to add that the music usually played at any Centimeter is beyond anything you'd ever want to listen to while chowing down mediocre food.
So if you must go there, bring some earplugs.

Went there last Saturday after not bothering for a couple of years.
Extremely crowded, and with extremely I mean EXTREMELY and with crowded I mean crowded as fuck.
Lots of people too.
Apart from that, the music was standard Indie mainstream, the drinks were pretty good.
Oh, and one or two people were there too.

It's nicely situated right next to the lighthouse and the beach.
You can sit outside, enjoy the sometimes pretty harsh wind coming from the sea.
The food is Dutch standard fare, meaning the fries are decent and the pancakes are, well, quite alright.

Actually part of a chain of cafés by coffee brand Douwe Egberts, it is still the place we had our best coffee during our whole stay in the NL.
They made a pretty good Café Latte and the first day we were there, I had a chocolate muffin for breakfast. My girlfriend opted for an apple pie, which I was told wasn't half bad either.
Since we only spent two nights in Amsterdam and the café was so close to our Hotel, we went there not just once, but twice. The next day my stomach needed something a bit more hearty, so I had a grilled ham and cheese sandwich:
With the cheese molten to perfection, I was what you may call a happy camper, only that I didn't really camp, but, well, stayed at a hotel.
All in all, a very solid bet for good coffee and tasty snacks.

Not least due to the proximity to my home, this is a favourite.
Not only is their ice-cream delicious, it's produced organically as well (no genetically enhanced stuff and all that).
To top it off, they are dirt-cheap (2€ for a 4-scoops-cone) and they're the only ice-cream place I've ever seen that offers a flavour called Max&Moritz (which, surprisingly, is my favourite now).

Great movie theatre, with comfortable seats (old style, no slanted seating, but the screen is so far away, it doesn't really matter).
For perfect seating, choose row 15 in the middle. You'll be sitting right in front of the dividing aisle, giving you maximum legroom.
They don't have fresh popcorn, only packaged, but most movies they show aren't traditional popcorn-movies anyway.
Their cafe, the Philiale, is a franchise of Phil.
And that would be the total extent of my knowledge.

Food is excellent, and prices really are unbeatable.
Sitting inside makes you smell of greasy Viennese kitchen for two days. Which is bad for your clothes, but good for the authentic experience.
Waiters are either exceptionally friendly or exceptionally grumpy. Depends on day and moon phase. I think.

Great place for breakfast, my recommendation is the Hallenfrühstück: Ham, poached egg, spinach and to top it off small pancakes with fresh fruit.
Try to go there when the sun is out, breakfast outside is even better.
Update: Here's a new favourite: Mexican Breakfast. Tortilla's with black beans and scrambled eggs, ham, salad, sour cream, guacamole and Pico de Gallo.

I'm always amazed at how many places I still don't know in Vienna, even after living her for the better part of ten years.
One of those is Mill. It's located somewhat off the beaten path near Mariahilfestraße, which may be a reason why I've never heard of it before.
The outside looks innocuous enough, but one's surprised by a charming little courtyard that's extended into a roofed area that's equipped with massive tables and quite idiosyncratic interior design.
I haven't had any of the food, but the menu looks somewhere south of traditional Viennese, the waiters and waitresses are very friendly and once the courtyard needs to be cleared (round 9:45pm), the inside is just as charming.
Overall Mill's a nice surprise and it's definitely a place to dazzle non-Viennese with Vienna's gastronomical diversity.

My favourite shopping center in Vienna, not least due to the food court.
The food may not be the best, but it's the perfect place to hang out and indulge in excessive people watching.
Special insider tip: Coffee at the Coffeeshop Company at one of the three tables facing the seating area of the food court. You can watch all the people go by, and it's like theatre, only less staged (but with all the drama).

While I'm usually not a fan of ready made or fast food, I took quite a liking to this place.
The food is good, considering it's cheap and fast. Sometimes it's not hot enough, but having them reheat it is not a problem.
Interior is modern and stylish, but not exactly inviting to linger. It's a fast food place after all.

Went there out of necessity, because Deli was overcrowded as always.
It was a good decision though, since I don't think Deli could have made a chicken salad this delicious. Named "Orient&Occident Salat" on the menu, it's mainly fresh salad with plenty of sesame-chicken. For very fair price as well.
As has been mentioned before, it's spacious, laid-back and sports a diverse and interesting menu. Service is a tad on the slow side, but it's the Naschmarkt after all, not a fast-food restaurant.

Nice setting in Vienna's 1st district.
Shady seating outside (shady as in "not hot", not as in "suspicious").
I had a minced meat and cheese Palatschinke, and it was good. Not awesome, but good. They offer a wide array of salty and sweet Palatschinken, so for the Palatschinken enthusiast, it's quite a paradise.
A bit expensive, but nothing out of the ordinary for the inner city. All in all, solid place to go for interesting, but not inspiring food.

It's one of the most scenic Heurigen in Vienna.
Situated on a vineyard, the view over Neustift am Wald is spectacular.
Prices are not too steep, but still a bit steeper than some other establishments of the same nature.
The food is really good. If you are into the rather heavy cuisine served at a typical Viennese place, that is.
It's my new favourite Heurigen, and I can't wait to go back there soon. And there's not a grain of irony in that statement.

As expected, the interior consists of heavy wooden chairs and tables, loads of ornamental woodwork and a waiter who looks like during the winter months he usually instructs people on how to ski.
A ski-instructor, if you will. He was still quite the polite chap, though.
I opted for a Zwiebelrostbraten, which is a slice of beef roast buried underneath loads of crispy onions, the whole thing, ideally swimming in a pool of gravy.
While it was in fact quite a lot and very competitively priced, the beef was a bit on the stringy side. The upside to this is, that after all, I'm much more of a gourmand than I am a gourmet, so combined with generous gulps of their beer and total disregard for what a perfect piece of beef should be like, I absolutely enjoyed my visit to the Lercherl of Hernals.
So if you want authentic Viennese cuisine that's not expensive and served in large quantities, do go there. As fair as I know, no bookings necessary.
