Bio Bar von Antun - (4/5)

Fazit vorab: Gutes Essen, kleine Portionen!

Fast-food! Fast-food! Fast-food! Lots of burgers, sandwiches, milk-shakes. Burgers are served in a plastic-basket - like in fast-food-chains. The fries are really, really great. The buns aren't that good. But the rest is awesome. Everything is vegan there - so a perfect place for vegetarians and vegans. I've had The Vegan Heartattack-burger. Expect lots of hardcore-music during your dinner.

After visiting the Red Bamboo in Manhattan we tried out the Red Bamboo in Brooklyn as well. The sugar-cane-drumsticks were a little greasy, but beside of that food was good. Pretty much the same menu than the restaurant in Manhattan. The restaurant in Brooklyn is much bigger though. In summer you can sit outside as well.

Great bar in Boston that serves vegan food. Located on the exclusive Newbury Street - but at the end of the shopping-mile (the other side...). Lots of hipsters hanging out there. Especially people working there. If you like to listen to indie-/punk-music during dinner or going out - this is the right place. The burrito was really big and very good. The meat-sandwiches seemed a little small - but we've heard that they tasted good as well. Definitely worth a visit.

Bike-rental for Montreal. Just in case that you can't get Bixi-bikes (because those damn machines don't accept your credit-card), Ça Roule is a good alternative. If you take an old bike 24 hours are 25 $ (without tax). Every following day is 6 $. You get locks, a repair-kit and helmets (if you want). You should get your bikes there if you want to go up the Mont Royal. It takes you a while and the 21 gears make it easier.

All-vegan-restaurant that serves sandwiches, burgers, soups, salads, rice-bowls and desserts. The sandwiches were great and huge. The uncheese-cake was a little disappointing. Too much chocolate and a weird consistence (really hard). But the parfait was okay (just a little bit too much of alcohol-aroma or alcohol). But definitely worth to check out if you are in Montreal. In summer you should try to get a table in the backyard. Quite crowded during dinner-time.

Vegetarian/vegan diner-chain in Toronto. We went there for lunch. The wraps were really good (the bean-one was a little better than the tofu-one). The burger looked fine as well. You get lots of vegan desserts. But after a wrap with fries you are quite stuffed. So we just had a chocolate-cookie - but it was a little dry.
Gourmet Organic Vegan Cuisine. This says quite everything. Small portions, but fantastic food, that has it's price. And it's absolutely worth it. As starters we had: Ravioli with Cashew Cream, Black-eyed Pea Cake & Seitan Skewers. Incredible! The entrees were really good as well: We've tried Port Wine Seitan (you have to be into the taste of wine of course) and Feijoadinha with Smokey Tempeh (yummy). And we shared some dessert as well: Apple/Cinnamon Sticks. The wine-card is quite international (even one Zweigelt from Burgenland). But they don't care, if you just have water. Highly recommended!!!

For Judenburg this restaurant or crêperie is quite atypical. The menu isn't that down-to-earth like in other restaurants. There are plenty of vegetarian options. But if you are vegan you have to go with salad (totally fresh - haven't had that in a restaurant for quite some time), fries or with a baked potato without dressing (which was really good). The people working there totally care when you ask them for vegan stuff. Which is really nice for a restaurant in a small town like that.

Starting a (all vegan) restaurant isn't that easy probably. So it's easy to excuse that there were hardly any drinks left and most of the desserts were out too. But the "Kung Pao Chicken", the "Golden Tofu Steak" and the raw "Summer Rolls" were really great. Definitely a recommendation. In summer the garden is quite okay - although you are sitting in a courtyard surrounded by apartment buildings.

The restaurant is on the 9th floor of the Institut du Monde Arabe. You have a great view over Paris and directly on Notre Dame. The restaurant is really exclusive and really expensive. But at least you should enjoy a tea (a pot of black tea for 4,50 euros) on the terrace. They've got some vegan food options as well. Just in case you want to have an exclusive dinner if you are in Paris.

Quite small Chinese restaurant. Most of the stuff on the the menu is vegan. Everything in French, but if you ask you'll get a separate English menu. Really fresh food with different kinds of fake meat. For Paris really cheap. Main-dishes start at 5,50.

Quite hip club that looks like an old disco - with lots of mirrors and stylish interior. Drinks are really expensive (orange juice - 5 Euros), but it's really fun going there and watching posh and stylish people dancing and drinking champagne and bottles of booze. But: Style-control at the entrance. You have to fit in the "concept" to have a chance to get in.

Let's start with the bad thing: This restaurant is as expensive as most of the restaurants in Paris. Main dishes start at 13 Euros. That's the reason why Saveurs Végét Halles only gets 4 of 5 stars. Beside of that everyhting is perfect. The food is fantastic. Especially for vegans. Beside of one or two vegetarian options the whole menu is vegan. You get lots of different fake meat and seitan stuff. The plates are quite big and the food is arranged really affectionately. And you get free tap-water - which is really nice, because drinks are expensive too. If you can afford it - go there!

Really nice club with lots of free-shows. There's a bar in the ground-floor and a small stage downstairs.
Eating in Paris is quite expensive. The Krishna Bhavan is an exception. You can get huge plates of food (rice and different kinds of curries) for 8 euros. I've got the champignons dosai - a huge bread filled with mushrooms (not enough for the size of the bread) - for 5,50. But if you are in the Indian quarter - you should check out this restaurant. They do quite everything vegan - you just have to ask.

I was really surprised when I went in, because the place is huge. You can't see it from outside, but there are several floors. It's a mixture between a café, a bar, a lounge and a restaurant. In the evening they play typically electronic lounge music. I was there on a Thursday evening sitting in the non-smoking-area (I was really surprised that you don't smell any smoke there - maybe they've change something because other reviewers complain about the smoke) inbetween of business-people in suits and tourists ordering champagne. Though there are lots and lots of waiters (mostly men) you have to wait quite a long time. Altogether it's quite okay.

Quite small café that looks like a tiny version of a chain, but it isn't. Only three or four tables - the seats are quite comfortable. The tea (provided by Teekanne) is good as well. Prices are okay - but not cheap. You can get breakfast and wine. It was a wine-shop before, acutally.

A little bit outside of the centre, but there's a direct tram-connection (15 minutes to city centre). Haven't been to the restaurant. 70 Euros per night in a single room.

The "Altstadtbeisl", or "Elfi" as it is called because of an old owner, is one of those cafes that help the cooler people to survive their teenager years growing up on the counrtyside. "Elfi" always was the place, where those people were hanging out, that weren't into pubs or fancy bars or discos. So under the parents always went rumours that drug-dealers go there. But there haven't been more drug-dealers when anywhere else. Lot's of people going to the "Elfi" went to university to Graz or Vienna and brought back the coolest records on the weekends. So you could hear new HipHop-, new Electronica- or just the new Metal-records. At least it was like that in the early Nineties. I haven't been there for quite a while. But on the day before Christmas and on the Easter weekend you can go there and you'll meet up all the people from back then. If you ever come to Judenburg, you for sure should check it out.
