Yeah, for sure you would have gotten the table if you were wearing a suit or reserved upfront.

I know what I am talking about since Fabios is a par excellance example for an upmarket joint where style matters. The food was great when they opened back in 2004 or so, but last time (August 2008), I was plainly disappointed.

Whilst the prices are very upmarket, the quality/taste ratio is way below and no match for Meinl am Graben (at Fabios, expect to pay between 18 EUR for some pasta and EUR 36+ for other main courses like Steak, guinea fowl filet or EUR 25 for octopus pasta). Last time, I dashed out EUR 77 plus 10% tip for me and a girl, two main courses, 1 desert, a bottle of water and a handle of beer.

At Meinl am Graben you may get better food at the same price (however, you can easily dash out EUR 250 pp at Meinl am Graben as well).

The deserts, however, are high quality and beautifully crafted. Meinl am Graben tops them easily though.

The selection of wines is very appropriate for a place like this. Topped, of course, by Meinl am Graben.

All in all: Fabios is a good place if you want to make an impression on your (next) girlfriend. It is very stylish. The staff is state-of-the-art friendly, helpful and competent. Furthermore, it's a good place for having a coffee outside, if you want to be seen there, of course.

When it opened, Fabios was a rising star. I would have given it 4 stars. However, quality of the main courses continuously declined. This makes 2 stars. Do not get me wrong: It's good. But nowadays, quality does not match the price anymore. If you want to enjoy decent food at somewhat the same price levels, go to Meinl am Graben. If you want to impress some young girl, go to Fabios.

In any case: place a reservation, so you do not have to bother about the fake "ah no, ALL tables are reserved" bollocks. Or, wear a suit or at least some gear from "Etro".
