nice and small hostel in the center of the city and near the old jewish quater.
the theme of the hostel may not suit everyone but the extremely cheap (offseason)prices of 2500ft per night (less than €10) make it perfect for low-budget travellers. sheets, breakfast and free internet included. near the hostel are some good bars (old jewish quater)

the concept of a restaurant serving mostly fondue is fun and i couldn't wait going there, but must have chosen the wrong day.
the cheesefondue always comes with some alcohol in it. our group ate 2 of them, but they only tasted like solid alcohol. but i will give it another try sometime.
the price is ok, especially if you consider that one fondue is for two people.

i wast told to get the best breakfast in whole berlin there, and i wasn't disappointed.

there are two bagle stores right next to each other in brick lane, and this should be the better one.
just make shure that you really know what to order before it's your turn, it's quite stressy in here. but normally you have to wait a few minutes, the people stand in line, sometimes even outside of this shop, although they're open 24h.

nichts für erschrockene!
aber wer sich in dieses gasthaus traut wird unweigerlich mit der österreichischen seele konfrontiert. eine jukebox, die mit schillinge gefüttert werden muss untermalt das ambiente mit abba oder falco. freitags und samstags gibts live tanzmusik (für jeden was dabei, zitat gasthausbesitzerin). glückslose und tolle preise inclusive.

decent cafe bar boca at the corner naunynstraße and mariannenstraße is a very nice place to have a meal or cafe.

wenn man diesen laden betritt, wird man sofort von der fülle an gerüchen in der luft überwältigt.
man bokommt hier alles über getrocknete kräuter (wunderbar um eigene tees zusammenzustellen), gewürze, tees aufstrichen und sogar seltsame zutaten wie zuckerrübensirup sind ihnen nicht fremd. herumstehende säcke mit ringeblumenblättern oder ähnlichem und das alte ambiente verleiht dem ganzen noch zusätzlich den letzten touch. und auf der ladentür steht der beste verabschiedungsspruch, den man sich nur erdenken kann: gewürzliche grüße von der belegschaft dieses wunderbaren ladens! und es stimmt.

beware!
you'll be spoiled with choices. the dictionary-like menu with about 40 set menus is nothing for people with decision problems. the food it can be called austrian, but you can also find tofu-noodles with peanut sauce between styrian käsespätzle and schollenfilet with potato salad. the prices are good, especially concerning the dish sizes. and keep in mind: very delicious!

even if you get the wrong drinks and have to ask the other cosumers who has yours, this is it!
this is the fotter experience! sitting in the spring/summertime in the garden between much too big bushes and and letting the nice old ladies bring your drinks to the wrong table. i love it.

the very good brekfast buffet is simply great.
paying between €4 and €7 (seems to have risen, compared to the other reviews) is absolutely worth it. also very nice for having a drink in the evening. the vokü (volxküche) once to several times a week (look at the magazine streßfaktor on the last page freßfaktor for the dates and places for the vokü) in the kastanienkeller is very delicious and with only €2 unbeatable.

sehr gut, muss ich schon zugeben.
obwohl italienische lokale bei mir ja eigentlich im ruf stehen 08/15 essen zu servieren bin ich dieses mal eigentlich begeistert. die pasta pronto um 6euro ist seinen preis wert. nudeln und soße nach wahl, dazu salat. empfehlen kann ich die käsesoße! yum!

the hairdresser of my choice is located in the center of graz' most trendy district nowadays: lend.
the fabulous interior decoration, good music and nice staff makes it on of the most worth seeing shops in graz. inside the shop there is also the bureau of 'en garde', a design studio, who made the marketing for die haarschneiderei.

ich habe ja lang gebraucht, um die scherbe zu mögen, aber mittlerweile hat es sich für mich gemausert.
der keller ist ideal für partys oder wunderbare mini-konzerte, der gastgarten nett und das essen gut. sehr gut und preiswert eigentlich. wochenends gibt es extrem leckeres frühstück/brunch. außerdem servieren sie vollmilch und nicht diesen h-milch @#%&*! (einmal bestellt und positiv überrascht!)

mit dem Dom im Berg beherbergt Graz eine der interessantesten Locations, die ich kenne.
Ob Theater oder Musikveranstaltungen, alles findet seinen Platz. Und das eigentlich interessanteste sind die vielzahl an 'Nebenbühnen', Stollen ung Gänge im Berg zwischen Fels und Beton. underbart!

der (für mich) beste (und kleinste) laden in der stadt, um cds zu kaufen.
die vertretenen generes entsprechen genau meinem geschmack und man findet immer etwas neues. wenn mal etwas nicht vorrätig ist, kann man es einfach bestellen, obwhl ich schon mal 5 wochen auf eine cd gewartet habe (scheint ein sehr spezieller wunsch gewesen zu sein). zusätzlich gibt es noch einen online store mit versand. auch zu empfehlen!

Das Restaurant mag zwar ansprechend gestaltet sein, aber das essen selbst ist im vergleich mit anderen running-sushi lokalen eher unterdurchschnittlich.

Ist man einmal zwei Wochen nicht in Graz gibt es schon ein neues Lokal, wo jeder hin will, jeder hingeht und man selbst hat noch nie davon gehört.
Diesen Misstand muss beigekommen werden und So bin auch ich heute mal dort gewesen und muss sagen: sehr nett!
Es ist eigentlich kein Lokal, ein Marktstand ist das Objekt der Begierde und serviert wird preisgünstige unaufwendige Küche, die vor allem gut schmeckt und dem Geldbörserl nicht weh tut. Gekocht wird mit marktfrischen Zutaten und getrunken wird vor allem selbst gemachten Eistee (leider mit eher wenig Geschmack, aber wenn mans mit dem Softdrink vergleicht um Welten gesünder und natürlicher). Auch der obligatorische Treuepass darf in Graz nicht fehlen und so ist jede zehnte Speise (oder jedes zehnte Bier) gratis!
Wenn man keinen freien Platz sieht: keine Panik! Bierbänke stehen bereit und so kann nichts mehr einen herrlichen Somertag trüben. weiter so!

although in some reviews the food was describes as not-that-good, i have to say i love this café!
the atmosphere is heavenly, the room is nicely decorated and the music is a good mixture of nordic easy listening. the coffee was pefectly stong and comes with a tiny bottle of milk, which looks just as lovely as everything in this small place. super-friendly waitress included.

mit running sushi hab ich meine fisch-aversion erfolgreich bekämpft und mich mit der zeit durch fast alle grazer lokale getestet.
doch erst das Fujiyama konne mich wirklich davon überzeugen und verwist alle anderen running sushis auf die hinteren plätze.
außerdem kann man dort auch am tisch mit schaukoch speisen.

also, nach der renovierung und neuübernahme hat das graba 42 wahrscheinlich nichts mehr mit dem angeblichen amerikanischen seines vorgängers "graba 42" überein (ich kann das nur vermuten, da ich früher nie dort war).
und eine augenweide ist es jetzt auch nicht. aber dafür ist die stimmung gut. das essen gut und billig und das personal sehr nett. für studenten gibts das essen um €5, pizza, nudelgerichte, salate, gulasch. standard eben, aber auch lekker. brot ist auf haus, und davon gibts reichlich. die nachspeisen (die 2) sind auch ok. besonders hervorheben kann ich jetzt den schwedischen hühnerstreifensalat mit scharfem joghurtdressing.

lonely planet proclaimed in 2006 celica as the hippest hostel in the world.
built in the old prison in an former casern area, the hostel provides a dormitory, several rooms and cells. the cells being real cells with metal doors etc., but designed and redecorated by several architects. i was 'lucky' and got the one cell, which was really scary and scarce (cell 119).

dafür, das dieser laden keiner kette angehört ist er relativ groß.
relativ groß auch die auswahl. im erdgeschoß gibts cds, im keller machmal flohmarkt und im ersten stock die vinylabteilung, die von dj norman david (boogee basement) mit eiserner faust regiert wird. zu erwähnen ist auch, dass es immer wieder nette ausverkauf-platten zu ergattern gibt. konnte so schon eine wunderbare kings of conveience und ein paar belle & sebatian erwerben...

Anscheinend ein Geheimtipp am Grisplatz, kennen doch erst sehr wenige dieses Lokal.
Das sollte sich schleunugst ändern, denn dieses Restaurant hat sich mittlerweile zu meinem Lieblingsplatz in Graz entwickelt. Empfehlen würde ich die Suppe mit grüner Currypaste, Basilikum und Cocosnusscreme. Schön scharf und genug für 1 bis 2 Personen. Die Preise sind moderat und absolut angemessen.

really nice café / deli specialising in austrian food.
the specialities range from viennese coffee (f.i. melange) to maggi instant goulash powder, austrian wine to mannerschnitten and kernöl (styrian pumpkin seed oil). kipferl has a really homely feeling maybe due the 'krickerl' hanging from the wall =)
it also got really good reviews in time out magazine.

Im Zuge einer Hochzeitsfeier war ich hier und muss sagen: trotz der sehr hoch angesetzten Preise (jedenfalls für eine Hochzeitstafel) war das Essen äußerst durchschnittlich. Dafür gibts leider nur 2*.

at first i have to say that i didn't try the legendary schnitzel vom weizen.

really cosy place with endless varieties of teas, sorted in well chosen categories (the flavored teas seperate!

the slightly hidden cellar-club near oranienburger straße hosts its own tanzveranstaltung / libertäre veranstaltung called die surfpoeten on wednesdays 9pm.
at these events there are german-language-readings of (more or less) fun short-stories with surf music in between and afterwards. nice thing to do during the week.

Einfach die beste Buschenschänke weit und breit.
Und obwohl diese fern ab von der überlaufenen, touristisch-gepeinigten Weinstraße ist, finden doch immer mehr überteuerte Autos und deren Besitzer den Weg dorthin. (nein, ich bin gar nicht wertend =)
Jeden ´falls gibt es nichts besseres als im Sonnenuntergang den Blick gen Osten zu richten und die Landschaft genießen.
Und kulinarisch kommt man auch nicht zu kurz.

Very nice second hand shop near the main street in norrköping.
they have lots of clothes, books and furniture and some beautiful ceramics. if you search carefully you can even find some precious scandinavian design jewels for moderate prices. damn that i have no chance to bring them home!

trinkhalle really seems to be the perfect word to describe this bar.
the menu is on the tiles on the wall, the decoration seems to be not missed by their previous owners and there's a sink on the wall in about 1,8m hight. there's no point in this and maybe that's the reason why i like it.

tiny sudanese location.
the tamiya was the best falafel i ate in berlin (and i ate some...). the secret is the peanut sauce and the price is also very good (regular tamiya €2, tamiya special €3).

spezialisiert auf elektronische musik. neben netter kaffeebar gibt es auch dj equipment zu kaufen und dieser laden beherbergt außerdem noch die paketstation für den gls service.

auch wenn man dieses lokal zu zeiten der fußball-wm nicht betreten konnte (zu viele menschenmassen, zu viel fußball), kann ich es nur wärmstens empfehlen.

die wände sind zwar in den seltsamsten farbkombinationen und mustern gekleidet, trotzdem ist dieses lokal einer ukrainischen besitzerin sehr sympathisch.
bei den lekkeren blinis kann man reis&ei und auch topfen empfehlen. ansonsten gibt es borschtsch und jeden dienstag eine ukrainische speise mit unaussprechlichen namen. aber vorsicht, es versteckt sich fleisch in vielen gerichten, bitte nachfragen!!!

the sägewerk (part of the sägewerk-posaune- zeppelin-grammofon-group) is quite nice to go to and have a cheap meal.
it's well attended. but living right next to it leads to various visits and at a certain point everything tastes the same. i'm currently in recovery.

haben immer wieder sehr nette taschen aus lkw-planen zu preisen, die zwischen leicht erschwinglich und der marke freitag stehen.
ich glaube eine tasche kostet ungefähr €50. mann kann sich auch für etwas mehr geld seine eigene tasche designen und planen lassen. wunderbar! außerdem ist das ein ergebnis aus einem caritas jugendbeschäftigungsprojekt. auch gut.

the over 120year old theatercafé creates a feeling of being in vienna at fin de siécle.
nice music and dark light punctuate the atmosphere. it's perfect for having a snack (various kinds of scrambled and fried eggs) after going out late at night. it also accommodates the cabaret-stage hin & wieder.

also eigentlich unterscheiden sich die meisten kaum von einander. entweder eier oder müsli. nicht gerade umwerfend. dazu gibt es billigmarmelade und low-budget aufstriche wie in einer jugendherberge. nein danke. da warte ich lieber bis zum nächsten wochenende und geh dann zur scherbe.

i maybe didn't get the concept perfectly right, but letting stdents work for you for free results in a bar which is extremely cheap by swedish standards.
the food is very good and too much for only one person. mostly bugers & fries and tortilla etc (food about 40 sek, beer about 25 sek if i remember it right). on weekend it is a club, on weekdays a comfortable place to hang out. located near the arbetets museum, the stads museum and the university campus, it is in the most beautiful part of the city.

wenn der anteil an kleinkindern, drinnen kichernd und draußen saufend, nicht so hoch wär, wäre dieser ort perfekt.
vor allem die vielfältigkeit dieses orts lässt mich staunen. josef hader im turm, acdc im club und im cafe gute stimmung und gute musik. und alles an einem abend. das geht anscheinend nur hier im treibhaus. nicht schlecht.

Quite nice, but also quite remote Buschenschänke near the Austrian border and the city of Mureck.
Really good for a quick snack after having a walk or so. the grape-juice is really good and you have to taste the gibanica. This looks like a pizza but is a semisweet delicious dish with topfen. and now i think i've confused you enough with untranslateable austrian words.

warning!
this is a strange place! in the evening ye olde axe is a strip club, but around 12am, when all the pubs and bars close, it turns into an indie club. there is a weird blend of people there: strippers, strip club visitors and 'skinny jeans', and the room itself is a strange mixture of a nice old pub and corners for the dancers. i don't know if i like it, but it's a place to have fun after all...
