Cafe Jelinek Reviews (8)
Die alten Herrschaften waren schon was besonderes.
Das heißt schon was.
The Jelinek is living Viennese coffee culture. It's not trying to be a typical old fashioned Kaffeehaus. Here the spirit is alive: Good coffee, Newspapers, discussion and you stay for ever. A must-see. But be careful. The Jelinek is not a museum. The unique atmosphere can not be consumed. You have to take part to experience it.
The Jelinek - simply The Jelinek, even with the (not so) new management.
Looking for the traditional Viennese coffee house, the Jelinek is keeping some of the athmosphere without declining to a museum (like the place even called that way).
What I miss is the casual chat with the old patrons, but everything must change....
My absolute favourite of all Viennese cafés.
It is quiet, cosy, the waiters are very friendly which is quite untypical for Vienna.
Delicious cakes, try the hot chocolate and the weisser Spritzer.
The only negative thing is that they close too early for my tase: 9pm.
Nice Schanigarten in summer.
One of the nicest places in my neighbourhood, an old and slightly run-down (in a charming way of course) cafehaus on Otto Bauer Gasse. Quiet and cozy, perfect for reading or nerdy games of scrabble! The only thing that bothers me every now and then is that if you're looking for a non-smoking environment, because you have a cough, or you simply are not a fan of smoke, you'll find a perfect example of how unwelcome non-smokers are in our cafehaus culture. The non-smoking room at the back of the cafe is usually empty, cold and generally less pleasant than the smokey part. The fact that it's almost always empty makes it a great place of private conversations though. And scrabble.
Very nice cafe that is highly recommended if you just want to have a quiet read.
Cafe Jelinek is literally the quietest place I've ever been to. Very relaxing, beautiful old interior, cosy and charming. And of course you get a great mokka there.
