Echo Reviews (2)
It's a bit of a deja vu when you enter this place, it seems to be stuck in this romantic notion of Thailand circa 1998...
interiors are vaguely colonial, the soundtrack comes courtesy a Buddha Bar compilation (or some other generic downtempo aural carpeting) and the waitress had that funky Beach-thing going on, dreadlocks n piercings and whatnot. So far, so Alex Garland.
Numerous, no: countless signs (and folders and posters...) advertise the fact that, yes, they travel with Eva Air (three times a week to Bangkok) although judging from the food they haven't really been there recently...
We had two starters, deep-fried-to-death spring rolls, which were more chinese than Thai, and Dim Sum, which were just chinese. My fault, I probably shoulda gone with the yummy-sounding salads, but the prices turned me off.
Main dishes weren't bad, they were just horribly bland and listless. The shrimp curry was soggy, just an uninspired mess of vegetables and average shrimps. Same went for the Wok with shrimps, just whatever veggies were around mixed in with masses of Thai Basil and Chili. Anything but Thai.
Oh, and earth to Echo: 4,80 for a small bottle of Singha beer isn't just outrageous, it's downright ridiculous.
echo is a cute thai restaurant at a very nice spot in the first district.
in summer you can sit outside and enjoy the beauty of the city, there's the church "maria am gestade" right next to it. even though it's right in the city, you probably won't meet tourists and it's very quiet there, kind of hidden. I'm in love with that area of vienna.
only bad thing - it's expensive. you get good food for your money, so well … I would recommend it, just because it's so nice there. I had fish and curry - which was hot! I think this restaurant is specialised on very hot dishes. there's some kind of rating-system on the menue, that warns you which meals are very hot or just a little hot - there's one dish that's supposed to be SUPERSUPER hot, but I was afraid of taking it. my choice was one of the medium-hot things and still ist was very, very spicey. I turned all red I think ;)

Neustiftgasse 15Great little restaurant with friendly service. Authentic taste. Only downside is that the main dish portions are a bit small.
