Luftbad Reviews (2)
I second the impression that the crowd there seems to be very much acquainted and that there is indeed a feeling provoked that you are a stranger amongst a group of friends.
But still, the free stage they have (every?) thursday is quite an experience. Contrary to, let's say, the open mic in the Tunnel, where the music seems quite stiff, this is actual improvisation on a high level, ranging from jazz to hip-hop depending on which people enter the stage. The mics and instruments wander from hand to hand and often you have the impression that there are just as many people on stage as in the (quite small) auditorium. Somehow this makes me believe in music once again as it is here exactly what it should be: fun!
What the bar is like on other days I don't know ;)
The Luftbad is a cozy, intimate, down-to-earth bar tucked away in a small street near the Apollo cinema.
It has a little stage, which often hosts local funk/soul/acoustic/world music/jam/hip-hop bands.
I haven't spent a lot of time there, but I've always gotten the impression that everyone else in the room knows eachother personally. Although that's probably because we actually crashed a private birthday party the first time we wandered in. I gotta say, the cake was delicious.
