Senkoma Reviews (4)
The restaurant was for sometime closed but reopened August 2008!
There might be a lot restaurants in town who call themselves "japanese" but the real japanese kitchen is more than just sushi!
Senkoma was recommended to me by a japanese friend and I was delighted by the good food, especially the chicken donburi (rice with chicken, egg topping) is my favourit!
They have reasonable lunch offers (from 5,80 Euro ) and if you are into it you can also come there for Karaoke.
The central location and changing special offers (Curry menues, free karaoke days and so on) make it one of my most liked japanese restaurants.
Went there with my best friend on a Friday in October.
We ordered a "Senkoma Menü" with 4 dishes: Edamame (green soy beans), Miso soup, Tofu (me) and scallops (her) and then Seafood Donburi (her) and Seafood Ramen (me). The Edamame appeared steamed and still in their husk. You had to work them out of the husk with your teeth and tongue (funny) holding one by one with the chopsticks. Miso soup was ok, but not spectacular and only lukewarm. The tofu was baked and hard to eat with chopsticks, cause you couldn't quite "cut" it in smaller pieces. It was very hot inside, so I nearly burnt my tongue. My friend said that the scallops were good. The waiter appeared again to ask which main dish we had ordered (apparently there was some confusion in the kitchen about it). We told him, but nevertheless I didn't get Seafood Ramen, but Ramen with fish (don't know which one but neither salmon nor tuna). Since we lacked some taste, we asked for some spicy sauce or spice mix and got Nanamitogarashi (as far as I could identify it). My friend's Seafood Donburi looked delicious and she admitted that it was good, but the salmon and other fish were quite "dry". The price per menu was EUR 22.00. As we had to wait for the main dish for quite a while, the waiter offered us a glass of wine for free (very nice, huh?). We had a delicious Rotgipfler (can't remember where from). I can recommend Senkoma, but some things may take a while until everything runs smoothly (as I have read that it has openend in August 2008 only, although I remember having been there about 2 years ago with a Japanese friend and then it being closed for a long time).
