BAI - TAIJI STUDIO FAM. BAI - (5/5)

I've been taking different Taiji classes for some years at the Bai studio and it is really relaxing. Usually I take Bai Lin's classes and so far I have learned the 24 and the 48 postures and started on Chan Taiji and Taiji Kung Fu Fan last year. There are many different classes (beginner and advanced level) and you can choose, if you want to take your class in the morning, during the day or in the evening. In summer we practice in the gardens of Schoenbrunn every Wednesday, which is a really nice setting.

Mabel`s No.90 - (5/5)

A vast variety of cocktails and other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks as well as delicious food (had the chicken wings & ribs with onion rings, 2 kinds of sauces, some salad and self-made potato chips). There is a non-smoking area in the back of the pub, although it is pretty useless because the major part is a smoking area and there is no separation between the two parts. But then again this is a pub. ;-)
You can sit outside in summer, which is quite nice, although there is heavy traffic around (which we didn't notice when we were there in summer, because the atmosphere of the place is nice and the cocktails are good). Come between 6pm and 8pm and dive into the "Happy Hour" - each cocktail for just 4€ as Ali said already below in his review.
I guess this place will become one of my favorites and the best thing is that I live just around the corner :)

Oriental - (4/5)

They serve not only delicious Thai food, but it seems that one of their specialties is steak, since everybody around us had ordered it. The owner is a German guy, married to a Thai. They even have Wiener Schnitzel and Hungarian Goulash on their menu.
Opening hours: 11am to 3pm for lunch and 6pm to 11pm for dinner
I had Som Tam salad, which was really good and spicy.
Unfortunately as everywhere in Goa people smoke in restaurants (quite annoying, although they are all out in the open), although India has prohibited smoking in public places (by law). I asked the owner about it and he said "here in Goa nobody cares". :(

Went there last Monday with friends. The food was good and served quite quickly. I ordered my main dish "extra spicy", but felt that it wasn't really spicy. But then I'm used to eating extremely spicy. ;-) The only thing is that the restaurant is really expensive. 6€ for 0.5l of Mango Lassi is pretty expensive and the soups start at 4€ (small portion). If you know how Indian food is prepared you wonder why it is that expensive. A thali (platter with different curries) starts at 16€ (didn't order it, though) and the main courses start somewhere at 13€. The portions are quite big, though. I couldn't finish my main course and took the rest home to eat the next day. The waitress could have been friendlier. She seemed quite impatient when one of my friends couldn't decide on what to eat and we asked her to wait for his order.

The food is good and supposedly freshly cooked, because it takes some time to be served, even when there are almost no other guests. However, I think that they should use less oil. I had beef with chili and coriander yesterday and it was served on top of cooked rice, but "swimming" in sauce which was very oily. I didn't eat all of the rice because of that. The avocado soup a friend had didn't really taste of avocado. But the menu is different from other places and the waiter is a nice guy.

Der Wiener Deewan - (2/5)

I went there two days ago and was lucky to get a table. Unfortunately the food wasn't as good as I had expected it from the former reviews. It was luke-warm, although refilled several times while I was there. I didn't like the red bean dal very much, the chicken curry was ok, but not really spicy. The ladyfinger curry was too oily and the potato curry (the menu read potato cauliflower curry, but no cauliflowers sighted) was ok. I love Indian food and Pakistani food is very similar, so I expected a lot more "flavor" and spices, but was disappointed, because the curries were quite bland. However, I paid 10€, because I had two plates (I was very hungry). The waitress was very nice, though and I liked that there is a can of tap water served for free.

I have to rate it with one star although I'd prefer to rate it with zero stars. Went there a few days ago after having watched a movie at the Kuenstlerhaus Kino. I was craving good Thai food and because I had been to the "Siam" before (although years back), I thought they'd serve good Thai food. I was mistaken. When I entered a group of Thai women were sitting at the second table from the entrance, chatting away. Nobody greeted me. I said hello, only one of the women (who was NOT the waitress) replied. I went to a table to sit down. Only one other table was occupied with 4 guests (it was about 8pm). I ordered Tom Yam Gung and Green Beef Curry with rice. The soup consisted of mostly (canned?) mushrooms and a few shrimp. It tasted neither spicy, nor sour (like I would expect it). But the greatest disappointment was the "green curry". It wasn't creamy (like I'd think because of the coconut milk used), it was thin and very oily. Besides some beef there were some pota...

Café Ministerium - (3/5)

A small café which is close to the Urania. Because I had to kill some time before going to see a movie at the Urania, I decided to take a drink there. When I entered, two tables were occupied. No ashtrays were on any table, but a man smoked at the counter. So I thought it was the no smoking section. I ordered a hot chocolate without cream and sat down to read my book. The other guests left and the waitress started to clear the tables, putting ashtrays on every table but mine (I don't smoke). 3 new guests entered and sat 3 tables away from me. One of them started smoking. I wondered why this place didn't have ashtrays on the tables when I came, but then suddenly ashtrays were put on every table although the waitress told the new guests that they would be closing in 30 min. Additional information: there seems to be another room in the back (where you go to the toilets). I couldn't find out, if this was the "real" non-smoking section, though.

Oasia - (4/5)

I ordered the Thai Green Curry with rice, which was good, but not spicy at all (although it said so in the menu). The waitresses (two of them) were busy treating 6 Chinese customers who were sitting next to me, so they didn't pay much attention to me or the other guests (a couple with a child, which was about 2 years old). I think that every customer should be treated like he/she was "special", not only if they are Chinese (which apparently the owner and the waiters are).

The food is really good, but what is really disappointing is the attitude of the owner of the place. She didn't once smile or ask, if we liked the food or if we wanted anything else. Actually we felt like "intruders" when we asked for a refill of hot water for our tea.
Had the business lunch which was Mulligatawny (nice and spicy, but not too much) and a kind of "Punjabi chicken" with chickpea curry and rice. The food was very good, the waitress very friendly. Although she turned away two people who entered the place at 1:50pm, saying that the kitchen was already closed. I overheard her conversation with the chef, because two women wanted to order a dessert plate (they had been sitting at the place when I arrived at 1:30pm) and the chef wanted the waitress to tell the customers that the kitchen was closed, but she had already told the two ladies that customers, who had already had their lunch, would get dessert, too. I guess it worked out, although I left before dessert was served. I guess it would be really rude to tell customers they couldn't get a dessert although it wasn't even 2pm (and the place is open from 11:30am to 2pm on week days).

I would have given zero stars, but that option is not possible.
Went there yesterday with a colleague, because we had some business close by.
I have to say that this is the worst food I have ever eaten. We opted for the lunch buffet, because we only had little time. The hot & sour soup tasted burnt and too salty. Tried to "save" it by adding some of the hot chili sauce, which didn't help much. They have a teppanyaki style option where you can choose from different raw meats, seafood and vegetables and have them prepared directly by the chef. No options for sauces, though. I took a plate of vegetables and octopus and a few slices of chicken. The plate arrived at my table and the food already smelled burnt. Apart from tasting burnt it had no taste at all - did they even add ANY spices???? In addition, the slices of beef looked already a little bit "green" sitting on the buffet. I will never ever return to this place and advise everybody to stay away!

Went there last Saturday to view the "Chalo! India" exhibition. The exhibition itself was very interesting and they even offered a guided tour for children. What was disappointing, though, was the food at the restaurant. They had a vegetable and tofu curry and a chicken curry that day (since the exhibition dealt with India) and first we had to wait for ages for our food (we were sitting on the terrace with a bunch of other people) while people sitting inside were served almost immediately. Then I got the chicken curry and found that the chicken meat was still raw. I went back inside with my dish and told them. The waitress/owner said: but it was just prepared and I said: well, it is still raw. So she took it away from me. After another while I got my dish (back?) with the implication: well-done chicken now. What does "well-done" mean??? Is chicken meat ever medium or raw to eat? The food is really fresh and there is a great variety. I prefer the steamed dumplings (Jiaozi) and the crispy shrimps with chillies. The sushi and maki are always fresh, too, and you get salmon, butterfish, tuna, mackerel, shrimp on rice (sushi) and also salmon sashimi as well as different kinds of maki (I especially love the California Maki with sesame seeds on top).
Gasthof Höllwirt - (5/5)

Lunch at Gasthof Höllwirt was really delicious. I ordered a char, fried with less fat in foil and vegetables and potatoes. My bf had a fried Whitefish with parsley potatoes. Both fish were really delicious and the portions big. I had a Kräuterfritattensuppe (soup with strips of pancake with herbs) as a starter which was the best I had eaten for a long time in a typical Austrian restaurant. Prices are moderate and there is a nice terrace to sit on from where you can view the cableway to the Dachstein Ice Cave and Mammoth Cave.

We stayed there for 2 nights (half-board). Dinner was served with 4 courses (half-board surcharge is € 12 per person/day). Food was really good and we were told that the grandmother of the owners is cooking. Her Tafelspitz was really delicious. The family is very friendly. Included in the stay is the free use of their heated swimming pool in the garden and the sauna (we didn't use the latter). The rooms are quite spacious and clean, although the bathroom tiles' color need getting used to. ;-) Every day we had a can of fresh Dachstein water in our room. There is a TV (only a small one, though) with several SAT channels.

Delicious food. I had the Seafood Bento today and the Thai Bento a few weeks ago. The Thai Bento comes with Tom Yam Goong as a starter and today we could choose between Tom Yam Goong and Miso Soup as a starter (included with the Bento). It was a bit hectic today, because they were full and everybody ordered at almost the same time, but the food is really good. Have to come back for dinner some time to try the a la carte dishes. They have Thai and Japanese dishes.

Xing Long China Restaurant - (1/5)

Went there yesterday, because I had some field work to do nearby. My colleague ordered the "8 Schaetze" lunch and I ordered "Chicken Szechuan style". The spicy-sour soup wasn't really spicy, but quite ok. My chicken was quite good, the vegetables still "crunchy", but again - not really spicy. The only thing which was quite disturbing was that the restaurant smelled very badly from the kitchen as we entered it. There were only 2 people inside who had already finished eating. It seems that they don't change the oil they use very often, because you could smell the used oil/grease which was not nice. I have a strong stomach, but today I don't feel that well.

This place is packed, so be sure to get there early or make a reservation. In addition, the non-smoking area is in the back, so you'll have to walk through the smoke-filled area in front to reach it. Moreover, the non-smoking area (which was almost empty at the time we got there) is close to the kitchen and the smell of "old" fat and grease was overwhelming (I guess that was the reason why nobody would sit there). I guess I would rather have taken a table in the smoking area than sit there, but we just wanted to see the separate room they have downstairs which you can rent for a party. This room is quite spacious, has a bar and a DJ area and a bit Disco feeling.

Thankfully NO buffet. The lunch menu includes the "usual" stuff you will find at any other Chinese restaurant. I had the "Acht Schaetze" with spicy-sour soup and rice. The soup was surprisingly good and didn't seem to be the usual glutamate-drowned stuff. But it was not spicy. The main dish was served on a plate I remember from holiday camps when I was a child. A rectangular plate in two parts with the salad in the smaller part (in this case soy bean sprouts) and the main dish in the bigger part. Hope you know what I mean. Thus the food didn't stay warm very long. The main dish was not bad, the vegetables still crisp, but the flavor was not so good. Maybe I should return for an a la carte dish.

The Club Berlin (or CB) was my favorite pub for many years. It has expanded last year and took over the former shop besides to enlarge the area on the ground floor. You will find 3 rooms in the cellar: A, B and C (or Club) Room. Nowadays many young people make reservations for celebrating parties, but in the old times everybody was partying and even dancing on the bar (watch your head because of the low ceiling). I had a great time there and sometimes come back to chat with other people who spent as much time at the CB as I did when I was younger (gosh, I feel old!).I loved the "Fladen" (toasted Turkish white bread with different toppings), especially in the middle of the night when I had too many drinks and needed to sober up a bit. The only negative thing for me is that everybody smokes and after a while you feel like you just can't take it anymore, because you will asphyxiate.

I ordered a Bloody Mary which wasn't good at all. Too many ice cubes (why do they always put ice in a Bloody Mary?????) diluted the drink to tasting really awful even when I tried to drink it quickly (not possibly, because it was so cold). Too much lemon juice. I ordered it spicy and it was only spicy for the first second (before it got diluted). The celery stem didn't look fresh at all and was already limp at the end. After we had paid for our drinks the waiter told us we could go downstairs; that they had opened a new club there. We asked about the music and he said "chilling House". The only thing I don't like about it is that this place doesn't have a non-smoking area. You can choose, if you want a vegan, a vegetarian or a mixed (with meat) plate. When you are finished, you will be asked, if you want more. As long as there is enough food, you can have more. :) I also recommend the Masala tea. Dulika, the waitress, is a very nice young woman. Don't be too impatient when she doesn't appear at your table immediately, but the place is quite big and she mostly is the only waitress (apart from a guy who serves drinks).

You will receive a starter on a small spoon on the house. :) The lentil soup is spicy and delicious and if you ask, you can get your dish more spicy. :) The owner is Mr. Anil Gupta, a very nice man, married to an Austrian woman. When he has time, he's up to a chat with the guests. I'd recommend on a reservation, especially in the evenings. Sundays and Holidays closed!

Went there with my best friend on a Friday in October. We ordered a "Senkoma Menü" with 4 dishes: Edamame (green soy beans), Miso soup, Tofu (me) and scallops (her) and then Seafood Donburi (her) and Seafood Ramen (me). The Edamame appeared steamed and still in their husk. You had to work them out of the husk with your teeth and tongue (funny) holding one by one with the chopsticks. Miso soup was ok, but not spectacular and only lukewarm. The tofu was baked and hard to eat with chopsticks, cause you couldn't quite "cut" it in smaller pieces. It was very hot inside, so I nearly burnt my tongue. My friend said that the scallops were good. The waiter appeared again to ask which main dish we had ordered (apparently there was some confusion in the kitchen about it). We told him, but nevertheless I didn't get Seafood Ramen, but Ramen with fish (don't know which one but neither salmon nor tuna). Since we lacked some taste, we asked for some spicy sauce or spice mix and ...
