Akakiko is everywhere, and their food is not the worst Asian in town.
A big plus point is the excellent delivery service on wozukochen.at - very reliable and informative. I think the only place in town where you know who has prepared your meal, when it was despatched to your place, and what the mobile number of the delivery guy is.

A very special place, great selection, worth the fees.

Bagels are not bad.
Could be better, but four stars just because I can't give three-and-a-half.

Ok, if a bit characterless.
Service not exactly warm. Seems to be coasting on its reputation.

The Drechsler is a legend in the Vienna coffee house scene.
Its future seemed in doubt following the retirement of its long-time operator, but after a lengthy closure and re-design by Terence Conran it has once again opened its doors. While something has been lost in its translation to *wallpaper-dom, it's still unpretentious, the food (nicely presented traditional fare) has improved and it opens 23 hours a day!

One of the most authentic Irish pubs in town, under Irish management and very popular with expats and locals alike.

Coté Sud is a gem.
Small but beautiful, the food is lovingly prepared by the wonderful Patricia, who is always ready to suggest the perfect glass to accompany.

A reliable, friendly neo-Beisl in the Gumpendorf area.
The chef prepares basic Austrian (in particular Vorarlberg) food with a twist. Wines are good and staff are friendly.

FS&S is ok.
Curry is a bit bland, soups vary. Not much space in the shop.

English-language cinema along the main shopping drag, very useful and very good.
Following a refit is one of the more comfortable places to watch a film in the inner districts.

Afro-Caribbean food comes to Vienna.
The menu deals in simple meat-'n'-rice type dishes with sides fried in palm oil. The atmosphere is great, the place is well appointed with modern touches and good music and the owner is extremely welcoming.

I like Kolar...
at least it has a bit of character and atmosphere. The flatbreads are good too.
I find it amusing to see someone complain that there are too many people and it's a bit closed away and dark - I thought that was the point of this place! Personally I like crowds of people - quite unusual for Vienna, which can be quite empty.

Fantastic, authentic down-home Japanese food.
It may surprise if your idea of Japanese cuisine is just sushi.

One of the best terraces in the inner districts make this a must in good weather.
Drinks are good, food is not bad, breakfast in particular is worth checking out. Even better now that the building works around Karlsplatz have come to an end.

Le Bol is very good at what it does - nice baguette sandwiches and tartines, good coffee and breakfast bits.
What it does not offer, unfortunately, is French food on a larger scale. Can get crowded.

L&L brings the Prêt-à-Manger concept to Vienna (yeah, I know, years after just about everywhere else in Europe).
My money is on this finally exploding over the next year and becoming the next sushi: something that it took ages for Austrians to get into, and then suddenly became impossible to get away from.

Absolutely love this place.
Super fresh, high quality sandwiches. In the UK or Ireland you can find many little take aways of this nature, but very few in Vienna. Really fills a gap in a market dominated by boring rolls from chain bakeries such as Strock or Anker or kebabs etc.

It is hard to categorise the Schikaneder: cinema, bar, club or all three?
At any rate, it is one of the most original and exciting venues in Austria, with great music and a relaxed (if occasionally wannabe-bohemian) atmosphere.
Gerecenseerd 24. Apr 2007
Not bad, considering.
Vienna doesn't usually do mass drinking establishments well, but this is one place to satisfy the visitor expecting a Munich-style experience in Austria's capital. Service is brusque but that's fine when you're sitting in the afternoon sunshine with a big beer.

The food is not wonderful, but it is a pleasant enough venue and good for a drink and / or a snack late at night.
The boutique on the ground floor is amazing in Vienna - what, I can actually buy clothes in the evening?! Is that ths sound of society collapsing?

One of the better expat bars.
Not in the centre, so tends not to get visiting business people so much as those with longer term plans of some kind. Plenty of Austrian clientele too. Good beer selection, great pub food, fun quiz night on Thursdays.

Four stars despite the inflated prices.
At least it exists. Best English-language bookstore in the country.
Gerecenseerd 25. Apr 2007
Now the most authentic pub in Vienna.
The Lion Rampant does it all perfectly - excellent selection of beers, many of which cannot be found anywhere else in town. As a Scottish pub there are, needless to say, many whiskies on offer. Food is a step above other pubs in the city.

Not half as much like Berlin as it thinks.
Gerecenseerd 25. Apr 2007
Good, if cramped, hair salon in the Eighth.
Younger members of staff seem to quake in the presence of London-born Kurt.

Vienna gets a branch of the fast-Italian chain.
Food is really not bad, and the atmosphere can be quite pleasant.
The chip card system - though criticised by some reviewers here - at least makes it possible to have a decent lunch during your allotted lunch hour! The problem with waiters in Vienna - at least sometimes - is that they have a habit of ignoring you when you need them most.
