District V - (5/5)

This is a fantastic restaurant. They have a very simple menu - consisting of a meat, fish and vegetarian option for starter and main. Choice of two or three courses, and the food is high quality and really great. It's not cheap but not too expensive, and there is only a simple choice of wine which isn't great, but the atmosphere is very cosy inside, and they can spill outside in the summer. The plates are individually made, which you can buy, and the toilets are very decorative! The staff are also very friendly. In the 4 years we lived there, we went over twenty times, and everyone we took also loved it.

Puyk - (5/5)

This is my favourite restaurant in Amsterdam - and we've been to a lot. The food is excellent - up-market French-asian, with some interesting options, including green thai curry sorbet - the only thing I didn't like so much, but it's a personal taste issue, they do an amazing pecan pie. The staff are wonderful - they remembered us the second time we went, and it had been a few months in between. The owner, Ms Puyk, runs it, and is often there. She comes up with a lot of the menu from her travels and she's very friendly. Happily gave us the recipe for the most amazing sea food bisque. It's not cheap, but absolutely worth the price and wonderful for a special occasion. They have a Deli around the corner which has cheese and wines and wonderful unfiltered olive oils, and small versions of the menu which you can make at home, or pick up a picnic basket. Highly recommended.

Sel de La Terre - (5/5)

My favourite restaurant in Boston (and we tried a lot). This is an absolute gem. Had special celebration dinners here, and also relaxed lunches. Not very cheap but not really expensive. The inside is very nice, fresh with wood. Very experienced and friendly staff, fabulous menu. They do wine wednesdays where you get a four course meal paired with wines. The food is really excellent, they bake the bread themselves and it's the best in Boston (coming from a European's experience). Highly recommended.

Livingstone - (5/5)

This is my favourite restaurant in Vienna so far. It's attached to Planter's whisky bar and a hotel. The restaurant is very nicely decorated, light with lots of wood - a bit colonial. The staff are very helpful and attentive. The menu is enormous - normally not a good thing, but we've tried many things on it and always been very pleased. The food has a strong asian influence, is quite expensive though - although the burgers are pretty good and cheap. Try the mixed desserts for two - they're enough for four, and come on a four-tiered platter with excellent chocolate mousse and creme brulee. I have pretty high food standards and think this restaurant is really excellent. After, they give you a shot glass to go next door for a free shot - which is also a really nice lounge bar.

Café Amacord - (4/5)

Went for dinner and really enjoyed it. The inside is nice and cosy. The staff were attentive and knowledgeable, the menu is wonderful - lots of very interesting and seasonal choices. Bit of an asian influence in some dishes. Toblerone mousse for dessert was great. Most of the food was excellent, but my friends Kasnockerl wasn't good (but she has high opinions). I would definitely go again.

Rubens Brasserie - (4/5)

This relaxed brasserie gets a five star for breakfast, but a three star for dinner making it an average 4 stars. Good quality breakfast is served until the afternoon and they have a wonderful (covered) terrace outside the Lichtenstein museum, which is very quiet. It can be difficult to get a table sometimes though, especially when it's hot. Inside is not as nice, and the dinner menu is quite basic Austrian fare and not really great.

Porzellan Restaurant - (4/5)

Nice fresh interior, great for sitting at the high tables by the bar for some good antipasto and an informal dinner. They also have a terrace. They play the BBCs nature documentaries on a loop next to the bar - deep blue (without sound) so you can enjoy in the background sights of baluga whales, and coral reefs (at least I find that very nice!). The food is pretty good, especially the starters, and the staff friendly and attentive.

Concept is nice - they sell sandwiches by size. The service was good but the food was terrible - stale bread, and the goulash was very greasy. Wouldn't go back.
