das topkino ist eines der kinos die filme abseits vom mainstream, meist im originalton oder OMU, spielen und vor allem auch zu zeiten des identities spielstätte für das festival und partylocation ist. für partys eignen sich die räumlichkeiten zwar nicht ideal, da es sich eher um ein cafe handelt in dem man vor einem film und nach einem film was essen/trinken kann. neben guten filmen gibt es auch gutes essen - vom sesam-tofu muss ich allerdings eher abraten.

i was to this cinema once watching a movie, i think it was fear an loathing las vegas in 1998 or so...

when i was looking for breakfast yesterday in the early afternoon i came by there and went in for the first time since then. it was the first out of four cafes at this time on sunday that wasn't completely crowded. old furniture, chilling music (electronic-jazzy), nice atmosphere and prices quite o.k. i had a classical wiener frühstück (coffee, bread role, butter and jam, egg) for 4,90 - because i was kind of hungry. if i wouldn't have been hungry i'd have taken a regisseur frühstück - maybe the coolest breakfast i ever saw on a menu: kaffee, tschik (coffee, cigarette) for 2,90 (or so). that's movie nerd breakfast i guess.

The Topkino is an ultra-hip bar, cafe and movie theater all in one. The Theaters are small and cozy, usually showing independent or cutting edge films mixing in a few classics here and there, often times in English. The sound quality and screen quality seem to be quite ok, just be prepared for the projector operator to sometimes edit the reels out of sync, leaving you watching a film completely out of order. The time it happened to me was amusing and not the end of the world and we even got a free movie pass from Top afterwards.

Their bar is packed in the evenings full of beautiful people listening to beautiful DJ mixes drinking beautiful drinks while doing everything they can to get the attention of everyone in the room.

Their prices are surprisingly ok, the coffee is good and they have an excellent tofu dish on the menu. Hopefully they keep it up and start offering a little more veggie/vegan dishes for us non-meat mouths.
