One of their specialties is whole river fish and generally theirs is a lighter take on traditional Austrian ingredients, if not the fare itself. Staff is friendly by Viennese standards and the garden is a lovely in summer. Reservations are not absolutely necessary but recommended for feast days.
really nice place to hang out (especially in the garden) and/or have a delicious 'hausmannskost'-meal. not on the cheap side but worth every cent!
very good food, they have the best krautfleckerl in the world. really delicious.
and of course my favourite drink:
MAKAvA
The Glacis Beisl is in the Museumsquartier, which is in the 7th district, not in the 1st.
Food is excellent, staff is very helpful and skilled (especially concerning wine).
Not on the cheap side at all, though. Make sure to book ahead, especially when you want to sit in the wonderful and shady garden in summer.
The interieur is stylish but warm and comfy.
The only thing I know about this place (I was there once) that it has a huge aquarium on the entrance with very scarry looking fishes that ruined my day.

This restaurant is on the Museumsplatz, but you get there from the Breite Gasse - OR you take the super-sekrit-stairway route where you go up at the MUMOK then stick to the backs of the buildings, go up and over and then back down and into the restaurant.
Anyway. Nice contemporary interior, good Austrian food, fairly understated. I like it. Has a terrace.
