Where I've been
Spots I've been to before, maybe you've seen me.

On my recent first visit, I ordered the lunch menu (which conveniently comes in two sizes). However, I couldn't tell you exactly what that consisted of: Organic somethingorother with a side dish of all-natural whatchamacallit. Despite not being able to identify my food, it was all good once I had figured out which parts were sweet and which savoury. The atmosphere is just great, and I'll be sure to return for some more delicious mystery food soon. Or maybe next time I'll ask what it is.Zollergasse 26 1070 Vienna -

Plenty of space, a great atmosphere and free wifi make this an awesome place to get some work done in the afternoon or just hang out with friends later in the evening. Think Phil or Möbel, but with superb and cheap food (limited to 2-3 new and unique choices each day). They also host interesting cultural events from time to time.Schönbrunnerstrasse 61 1050 Vienna -

This has got to be one of the most comfortable, laid-back places in town. The food's delicious if you appreciate mediterranean cuisine. They also have power outlets, Macs for rent, and free wifi -- so you can get some work done here, too. The only thing disappointing about the Ronahi is their website.Schottenfeldgasse 18 1070 Vienna -

I don't like it. The food tastes bland (at least to me) and the club downstairs is tacky. Not my kind of crowd, either.Gumpendorferstrasse 9 1060 Vienna -

I've only recently been here after hearing about it for a while, and I'm very impressed. The atmosphere is simply awesome: the architecture together with the wall projections really turn it into a surreal place. This has the potential to become one of my favorite spots in Vienna.Karl-Schweighofer-Gasse 10 1070 Vienna -

Vienna's oldest Crêperie (that's why they got to call it just that): They serve pretty awesome crêpes until just before midnight in a somewhat plain, but very friendly atmosphere. It's not too cheap though: a crêpe costs around 4-6 euros, and you'll want to have two.Schlösselgasse 8 1080 Vienna -
Minimalistically furnished bar/club near the Flakturm with plain walls, electronic music, and lots and lots of art students. It sometimes doubles as a gallery. A little hard to find, but worth the effort.Schadekgasse 6 1060 Vienna -

This is the cafe on top of the Hauptbücherei (main municipal library) building. While it's definitely not the nicest place in town, I try to stop by here every now and then to enjoy the stunning view of Urban Loritz Platz you get from the three front-most tables. If those are taken, however, don't bother.Urban-Loritz-Platz 2 1070 Vienna -
Organic food only, fair-trade everything, wooden (presumably handmade) furniture, absolutely no smoking, usually exclusively vegetarian menus, every meal also availible as a children's portion, a community pinboard, political discussion in the menu (This month: Burma, the Holocaust, and deportation practices), local art on the walls and an extra room for rent to yoga groups and citizen initiatives: Every cliche in the book comes true at this fiercely indie organic restaurant hidden away in a quiet side street near Schottentor. So put on your Birkenstocks and enjoy its honest charm and affordable, delicious, healthy food.Wasagasse 28 1090 Vienna -

I wanted to like this place for their large breakfast menu (including what they call Sudanese, Indonesian and Nepalese breakfast), but I found the staff unhelpful and the food mediocre. And do they really eat Obstpalatschinken for breakfast in Indonesia? o_OSchwarzspanierstraße 15 1090 Vienna -

Mexican restaurant and cocktail bar. The Quesedilla I had (which the menu claims isn't availible anywhere else outside of Mexico) was good, they're open until 2 am, and supposedly they also have wifi. You might not want to sit right at the windows, since a Trafik directly across the street has put up a distracting LCD that continually shows commercials. How lame.Florianigasse 1 1080 Vienna -
