Ein großes Bierlokal im Stil der Centimeter-Kette mit nettem schattigen Innenhof-Gastgarten, aber sonst wenig aufregend.

The outdoor concerts at this former squat are great. They also show movies during the summer.

Yum! The concept reminds me of Subway, only with bagels instead of subs: Hardly any waiting time, lots of customization options, everything's prepared for you right in front of your eyes... and it's slightly overpriced. Good way to start your day, though. I loved the Bagel Station shake, and will be back for more.

I knew I had to come back here when I randomly walked by once: Even from the outside, this cafe looks incredibly charming, radiating hospitality out into a quiet cobblestone street in the 8th district. Not unlike the Creperie in nearby Schlösselgasse, they serve a large variety of crepes, galettes and waffles – only here they're made from buckwheat and soya milk, and are a bit more expensive. They also have a huge selection of teas. The staff is very friendly, and there's a whole library of books to browse or buy.
Highly recommended.

Far less sophisticated than its name might appear to suggest. Go there for some cheap late-night Schnitzel and beer (until 2am, or midnight on Sundays), as long as you don't mind mainstream radio playing in the background.

To me, Cafe Europa is less of a destination than a fallback: It's the place to go for a bite after midnight (that isn't McDonald's), and the place we always seem to end up at when we can think of nothing else. Decent size, pleasant atmosphere, good tunafish Ciabatta.

This is the cafe on top of the Hauptbücherei (main municipal library) building.
While it's definitely not the nicest place in town, I try to stop by here every now and then to enjoy the stunning view of Urban Loritz Platz you get from the three front-most tables. If those are taken, however, don't bother.

Personally I don't care much for the bar part with all the live soccer transmissions, but some of the best indie concerts in Vienna have taken place here -- it's always worth checking their website to see who's playing. Beware, however, that it's often WAY overcrowded. (Examples of artists too popular for the Chelsea: Xiu Xiu, 13&God).

Vienna's oldest Crêperie (that's why they got to call it just that): They serve pretty awesome crêpes until just before midnight in a somewhat plain, but very friendly atmosphere. It's not too cheap though: a crêpe costs around 4-6 euros, and you'll want to have two.

Great indian/sri lankan food. People have been telling me you need to reserve ahead of time to get a table, but I've always managed to squeeze in without a reservation when I've been there.
