Great place for breakfast, my recommendation is the Hallenfrühstück: Ham, poached egg, spinach and to top it off small pancakes with fresh fruit. Try to go there when the sun is out, breakfast outside is even better. Update: Here's a new favourite: Mexican Breakfast. Tortilla's with black beans and scrambled eggs, ham, salad, sour cream, guacamole and Pico de Gallo.

Great food, but tables should be booked in advance, as it's really quite small.

Food is excellent, and prices really are unbeatable. Sitting inside makes you smell of greasy Viennese kitchen for two days. Which is bad for your clothes, but good for the authentic experience. Waiters are either exceptionally friendly or exceptionally grumpy. Depends on day and moon phase. I think.

My favourite shopping center in Vienna, not least due to the food court. The food may not be the best, but it's the perfect place to hang out and indulge in excessive people watching. Special insider tip: Coffee at the Coffeeshop Company at one of the three tables facing the seating area of the food court. You can watch all the people go by, and it's like theatre, only less staged (but with all the drama).

An oasis in the desert that is the 20th district. Great music, relaxed atmosphere, nice audience.

One of the best, if not the best cinema in town that focuses on English language films. Showing "The Third Man" once every week. Two screens, the large one even has an old-school gallery. Make sure not to get seats next to pillars, otherwise you'll suffer from craned-neck syndrome after a while. No fresh popcorn, packed only.

Not least due to the proximity to my home, this is a favourite. Not only is their ice-cream delicious, it's produced organically as well (no genetically enhanced stuff and all that). To top it off, they are dirt-cheap (2€ for a 4-scoops-cone) and they're the only ice-cream place I've ever seen that offers a flavour called Max&Moritz (which, surprisingly, is my favourite now).

Nice setting in Vienna's 1st district. Shady seating outside (shady as in "not hot", not as in "suspicious"). I had a minced meat and cheese Palatschinke, and it was good. Not awesome, but good. They offer a wide array of salty and sweet Palatschinken, so for the Palatschinken enthusiast, it's quite a paradise. A bit expensive, but nothing out of the ordinary for the inner city. All in all, solid place to go for interesting, but not inspiring food.
