I randomly discovered this place today and fell in love with it immediately. Cozy and rather quiet, friendly service, yummy waffles, coffee with soy milk available, all in all a rather unique atmosphere. I am planning to one day read an entire book there.

One of the nicest places in my neighbourhood, an old and slightly run-down (in a charming way of course) cafehaus on Otto Bauer Gasse. Quiet and cozy, perfect for reading or nerdy games of scrabble! The only thing that bothers me every now and then is that if you're looking for a non-smoking environment, because you have a cough, or you simply are not a fan of smoke, you'll find a perfect example of how unwelcome non-smokers are in our cafehaus culture. The non-smoking room at the back of the cafe is usually empty, cold and generally less pleasant than the smokey part. The fact that it's almost always empty makes it a great place of private conversations though. And scrabble.

"Most popular tags for Cafe Stein: 1090 bad breakfast cafe"
I guess i am not the only one who isn't exactly a fan then. I must admit i haven't been there in a while, but for a reason. The last three times i went both the service and the food were offensively bad. "1090 bad breakfast cafe" sums it up pretty well for me.

According to rumours the Marea Alta might not exist for much longer. If this turns out to be true Vienna is losing one of its nicest places to hang out. A mostly queer-defined bar/club run by lovely people who make great caipirinhas and the most amazing chilenian version of hot dogs (with meat or fake meat). Host to drag contests or the fabulous Strom+- DJs. A great place to celebrate your birthday and play your own favourite music to dance to, or just somewhere to go for one last beer and a quick game of football-on-a-stick before going home.

Imagine a bookshop/library combined with a vintage furniture shop, a record store, good coffee, decent snacks/breakfast, very friendly (and in most cases rather attractive) waitresses and waiters, good DJs, wifi and no smoking except for the outside tables. What you get is basically the best place ever.
(As someone already mentioned on here it's more of an daytime sort of place though. It tends to get crowded in the evenings.)

Decent food and drinks, and a kingdom of couches and wifi on the first floor!

What i like best about Siam is that most dishes are upon request available with seitan instead of meat. Their seitan/rice/peanut combination is amazing.

Whether you're a professional KonditorIn or just looking for a bit of wacky deco for your best friend's birthday cake, SÜWAG is the place to go. Their shop on Sechshauserstrasse may seem a little weird and rather tiny at first, but they have just about anything you could possibly ask for. Make sure you have enough time, there's a lot to look at and things may progress rather slowly. I found it worth the wait and being squeezed in between old ladies and baroque wedding cake decorations though. The owner gave me a bag of free candy and i spent all the money i had on me on delightful little things. I'll be back in time for Christmas.
PS.: Make sure you ask the owner about her collection of owls!
