haven't been here in ages but i do remember them having wicked jam nights (drums+didgeridoos+???) on a rather decent stage. Lighting is verrrrry ambient (i.e. dark) but just enough to see the person you're talking to ;)

When we went, it was verrrrrrrrrrrry crowded.. to the point that many had to go outside to even breathe... then the neighbors complained that we were too loud, so the Box sent out a guy to tell us every 30 seconds to be quiet ;) Also if you're a non-smoker forget it as the "non-smoking" area isn't very separated. Drink prices are average, but they have some nice selection of "exotic" juices such as pear juice (birnensaft!) which you don't normally get anywhere.

Suuuuuuper relaxed atmosphere, very comfy couches to chill out on, live dj (had nice progressive/dub playing) and they had a small drum circle in the back area which go things pumping!
Food is turkish (vegetarian of course available) but doesn't taste that spectactular (can't compare to Kent!) and prices are a bit steep, but the service is amazing, the waiters are all extraordinarily fun/ny and always with a lovely smile on their faces.
Not sure if it's standard but you have to pay for everything up front i.e. no making a tab to pay later (maybe depends on how crowded it is? we were a large group and there were 2 other very large groups there) - though this is not a bad thing, except that you will probably tip more if you order more.
Ah yes, they have shisha pipes everywhere too.. not sure of the prices though.

I only know about the shopping part of this store, but as others have mentioned, the prices here are almost insane.. but it is the last real Austrian supermarkt (everything else is german gacki) and the food here really is of the utmost highest quality! You can't beat what you get here, granted some of the things you can get elsewhere for cheaper, a lot of the stuff here is afaik impossible to find anywhere else. If i had the money, i would shop here more often, but i usually just end up just going to naschmarkt ;)
Oh yea and as far as i've been able to tell, it's the only markt in the inner part of 1st district (which may explain the exhorbant prices ;)

Lots of weird random accessories for you to put in your home or on your feet or on your head or wherever. I've never really taken much time to look at what they're selling though, as everything i've bothered to look at is quite expensive, but they have a decent-sized collection of very cheap records that DJs bring in on a regular basis. Everything from minimal to progressive to funk to 80s to whatever the last DJ brought in. They also have 2 (or 3?) record-players for listening to music before you buy. The two owners of this place who mostly work there are also some of the nicest, friendliest guys i've ever met. Oh yea and this place is soooooooooooooooo colorful. I looooove the graffiti inside, whenever i go i have to stop and look around at all the colors! ;) Worth a visit if not just to look inside!

The pizzas rock, the price is unbeatable and the staff are absolutely marvellous, silly and a bit strange (in a good way) - the best back-alley pizza joint in Vienna!

Absolutely love this place! I always stop by for at least a drink if i'm in the area. It's open everyday usually from 8-12 but i'm sure they're open later?? And they're always spinning electronic music, though most often drum 'n bass. Very ambient but colorful room to chill out or rock out. The crew there is super friendly, drinks are cheap, free internet (huge awesome boxes to sit inside), decent visuals (or live camera close-up view of the DJ) and lots of soft places to rest your popo. There's loooads of room to dance, though i've never been when people are... :/

I dunno what's up with all these bad reviews for the service, i've been maybe around 6 times in the last year and almost everytime i've had really polite or really funny waiters who serve exactly what i ordered. The atmosphere is great, downstairs is more the boring "normal eating area" but upstairs is one of the most laid back lounge areas ever, somewhat reminiscent of the 70s everywhere - it reminds me of my grandparents living room, except it's 4 times as big and has a lot (10?) of comfy couches and (10?) fat lazy-boy-like chairs for long-time chilling pleasure. The only thing i don't like, which i won't hold against them, is that people can reserve tables there, and almost everytime i've been, it was already full and half the tables are reserved, even though the parties are coming in 1-2 hours, but if you sit down anyways the waiters are fine with it as long as you understand you gotta go eventually, which can horribly suck when you're all chilled and sprawled out on one of the übercomfy couches ;)

ooh and try the fresh peppermint tee, yummmmyyyy!

Closed Tichy
Reumannplatz 13

Reviewed 21. Nov 2007

I'm somewhat of an ice-cream addict (i love to wolf down a liter at a time, i'm somewhat of a glutton in the summer ;) and i can say that Tichy has some of the best Vienna has to offer. As soon as they open the doors (usually while it's still rather cold out, April i believe?) its packed full - always! It's never not full in fact, and if that doesn't say something for quality, then i don't know what does ;) I'm addicted to this place just like everyone else, i usually get a 1L box for about. 8 euro(??) which is about the norm in Vienna for hand-made ice-cream i.e. not that crap that all stores sell.

Closed Wirr Untergrund
Burggasse 70

Over the last 7 years, Wirr is one of the few places i still return to every once in awhile and where things never seem to change: stellar service, relaxed atmosphere, easy to meet new people, some nice couches, a wuzzler (table soccer) and the downstairs party area is crazy wicked fun: nice bar, good-sized chill out area and visuals (usually crazy old movies) but the sound system is decent but definitely not the best... i've heard DJs blow it out before ;)
