“More to offer”, that’s what the Online City Guide offers foremost. Clemens Beer and Michael Borras launched Tupalo.com in 2007 – since the launch Tupalo.com has received tens of thousands of user-generated reviews by several thousand reviewers – and that’s only Austria. On http://tupalo.com/en/vienna, bon vivants and night owls can now choose among tens of thousands of “Spots” where they should visit next. Spots are pubs, bars, shops and the most popular hotspots – up close. “Being close to summertime in Vienna, users are particularly interested in places to eat, drink and hang outdoors,” says Tupalo.com CEO Clemens Beer.
That’s why, among the Tupalo Vienna community’s favorite spots one finds locations with comfortable outdoor seating, such as Asian-inspired favorites On (http://tupalo.com/en/wien/on) and Sapa (http://tupalo.com/en/vienna/sapa), the French bistro Le Bol (http://tupalo.com/en/wien/le-bol) and the Italian classic, Il Sestante (http://tupalo.com/en/vienna/il-sestante) with it’s large and scenic courtyard seating area.
Through user-generated voting, ratings and reviews, users on Tupalo.com are able to voice their opinions on their favorite restaurants, cafes, shops and other local businesses, as well as collect and show off their lists of visited local businesses and wish-lists of businesses they’d like to visit.
Being part of Tupalo.com is simple: “Anyone who registers can submit reviews, ratings and collect their favorites lists. The result is a powerful, user-generated local directory with character” says Beer.
The idea behind the concept? “Recommendations from friends and users with similar tastes are much more relevant than editorially created content” says Beer.
The food-flavored city guide already generates hundreds of thousands of visits each month, with its core community based in Vienna, Austria. “We started in Austria, because we live here and our project immediately generated huge interest,” says Beer, explaining the rapidly growing number of locations and users.
Currently, the Vienna start-up is working hard in order to expand the content and usability of the site. Soon there will also be a mobile Tupalo.com Version for the iPhone coming, so that the entire Tupalo.com content is also available on the go available.
